How to Play

Edric's friends like to get through your opponent's defenses, so get out there and start whacking!
There are many creatures in this deck that like getting trough, and for them there is many cards that make them unblockable, or otherwise hard to block.
Also there are creatures that are already unblockable, so they just need some minor buff up.

Deck discussion for Budget EDH: Edric & Friends

Edric himself is close to 20. I think he was three like six months ago.

Even in budget no reason to run Manalith over Darksteel Ingot.

Gigantomancer would get along great with all those cheap 1/1's.

Great suggestions. Thank you for them.
And I know that Edric is valuable. That's why I made the deck with as low amount of money as possible.

I believe he started seeing some play in modern. Plus he's only been printed in one set and it was a short run, so I think speculators have driven the price up as well. I actually just scooped a dozen Ghave Guru of Spores up off tcgplayer because he along with Zendruu are the only generals left from the original Commander run under 10 bucks. Worst case I can always trade them and get back my 25 bucks, but I'd wager that this time next year Ghave is sitting at ten.

I actually stopped playing when Legends came out and just came back about this time last year, and it was insane to see card values on the old stuff I used to have. But even in the last year things have skyrocketed. Fetches I picked up for 30 for commander decks in March of 2013 are 70 now, Liliana from 30 to 70, Edric to 20, Avacyn from 11 to 25, etc. Nuts.

You are one of those rare ones who truly understand that many cards are extremely overpriced. After all, there always are counterspells, kill spells and other things like that.
Like, what good is Avacyn that costs 20 bucks if you cast it and your opponent responses with Essence Scatter that costs 10 cents?

Or bounces it. Or makes you discard it. Or makes you sacrifice it. Or take control of it. Oh, so many ways to screw them over, and all of them are cheap XD

Well a good EDH deck isn't going to hardcast Avacyn but instead sneak her into play via Quicksilver Amulet, Tooth and Nail or Defense of the Heart.

IMO way, way too many people in EDH over look the power of exile vs. killing stuff. I constantly see decks running Naturalize instead of Deglamer or Unravel the Aether or Fade into Antiquity when there are three Theros gods and a Darksteel Forge in play, and the person shows up the next week still running the Naturalize so the same thing happens again. There was a guy last week at the table playing B/W bitching about being unable to kill an out-of-control Predator Ooze with the Murder and Doom Blade in his hand, but I bet he doesn't replace them with Unmake or Sever the Bloodline this week.

Hey guys! I just noticed that Edric costs only 1.50$ as Conspiracy version! Now this EDH is pretty damn cheap!
