How to Play

Inspired and requested by jaeger997.
This deck might not be as swift as you might have hoped for, but I hope that the deck is as ferocious as you hoped for!

Kolaghan allows you to hit quickly and hit hard. Once Kolaghan hits the field, you can keep dropping deadly threats every turn and keep whacking.

Deck discussion for Budget EDH: Kolaghan's Rage

Interesting deck (too bad we can't use Kolaghan's second ability).

The only change I would suggest is changing dragonlord's servant for some form of general mana fix/ramp (Rakdos signet/keyrune/cluestone) since there seems to be 3 dragons in total including the general while all cards can benefit equally from general mana fix/ramp.

the second ability can be of use in graveyard-based decks, though those are exceedingly rare in commander

I know that his second ability is nearly a complete waste in EDH, but I still think that the Haste-enabler is a pretty good thing to have.

Thanks Northy! It might not be swift, but I'm sure it'll pack a mean punch! :D

You know your opponent is cheating if he triggers Kolaghan's second ability lol

Yeah. : )
...or he/she is playing with an EDH deck that is made around of Relentless Rats/Shadowborn Apostle.

Has anyone been using kolaghan in modern/casual? I want to build a deck using her and other dragons (Utvara hellkite, etc) but I've been struggling to find combos.

Combos are not required to have fun! Just let your inner Timmy free and craft a good old dragon beatdown deck!

While I agree completely (In fact I have a few intro decks i still like to throw against each other), against my friends casual Elf deck it's a must. Those little cretins combo and ramp like crazy, then by turn 5 you are facing engulfing slagwurm, mossbridge troll and 6-7 elfs that are 10/10+. And if he gets off genesis wave then usually you have all this with akroma's memorial to deal with. I want something that can reliably beat it, but am struggling to find anything that synergises like elfs, except maybe slivers.

Wouldnt Rakdos, lord of riots also do well as a commander for this deck?

Maybe. He could be the deck's lieutenant.

I've made a deck EDH B/R, maybe you can get inspired and use some cards too: http://www.mtgvault.com/mcwaffles/decks/rakdos-edh/ . Except for a few cards I've tried to keep it on budget.
