Deck Description

*sigh*
Okay... How should I put this again?

The time of "Northy's Annual Disappearance" has come yet again. I'm going into a place with no internet for A MONTH. I'll be leaving you guys and ladies tomorrow. I tried to craft as many requested budget decks as possible today, and I was able to pull 7 of them off. Unfortunately, during the last couple of days people have suggested an enormous amount of deck ideas, which I'm unable to complete before leaving. So, everyone whose deck request is not yet made, it'll have to wait for one month. I'm very sorry.

You don't have to worry though. When I return, I'll unleash a Deckathon#2 as soon as possible. Deckathon's idea is that I craft a HUGE amount of decks in a short amount of time. Last year's score was 20 decks total in 2,5 days, which I'm attempting to overcome this year. Every single suggestion is welcome, even if it is weird one, stupid one, hard one, or insane one. No matter what it is, I try my best. Please leave all the suggestions to the comment section below. The deck archetypes I'll craft during the Deckathon#2 will be:
-Budget Decks (obviously)
-Budget EDHs (obviously)
-Budget Duels
-Maybe a couple of missed Friday Budgets
-Maybe Tiny Leaders -decks
I have some deck ideas for the incoming Deckathon already, which I'm going to include in the How to Play -section below.

Thank you everybody so much for being such an incredible community. You people are simply the best. There are so many of you for which I want to leave special regards here that it could take probably hours to write all that text down. To save my (and everyone else's) time, I'll try to type as shortly as possible. I would like to bring in three special accounts from this awesome website:

exodd1994
(http://www.mtgvault.com/exodd1994/)
-exodd, you have been one of my greatest supporters on this website for as far as I can remember, yet I've given you nearly nothing of the attention you deserve in return. Thank you exodd. Thank you so very much.
-Please, if anyone has time, go and check out exodd's channel (linked above) and check out his decks.

nijapl3dge3rz
(http://www.mtgvault.com/nijapl3dge3rz/)
-pl3dge3rz, as my real life friend I want to thank you. For all those times you misplayed your cards on some random guy's kitchen table, you reminded me why MTG is so much fun to play with friends: hilarious moments and plays in dumb situations. *cough*I still remember that time when you countered my Nekusar and you lost thanks to that next turn*cough*. Woah. That was one helluva cough. Anyways, thanks pl3dge3rz. Thank you so much.
-Damn. I can't still type your name correctly without checking it out. Why on earth do you always come up with the weirdest names you old troll?

RobM
(http://www.mtgvault.com/robm/)
-Rob, you taught me something extremely valuable in return while I taught you to play about half an year ago. You taught me that even the teacher can learn from his students. Thanks mate. I appreciate the work you've done.
-By the way, I'm still expecting a whole lot from your Uncle Istwan good-stuff EDH. Don't forget to add Calcium-man!

...and as a special guest, let me thank one more person from this website. The one who I've forgotten to thank too many times, just like with exodd's case. The person I often fight with here: Gothy.

Gothy
(http://www.mtgvault.com/gothy/)
-Sorry Gothy for ignoring you.
If anyone has time, go check out Gothy's decks. He is an expert in both Standard and Modern formats.

Okay, since now I've written down all the stuff I wanted, I guess this is it. I'll be checking out newest post tomorrow morning if I have time, but otherwise this is the end for now. But whatever happens, I hope that every single one of you keeps crafting new, awesome decks, keeps having fun with friends in the mysterious multiverse of MTG, and of course, keeps the budget in mind.
Northy loves you all.

Deck discussion for Northy's Disappearance

I don't know what I've taught you, I'm a new player who doesn't know how to play, but I'm glad you appreciate whatever I've taught. Thanks for everything man, It's been a pleasure knowing you and I hope it will be for years to come. If ya got any troubles, remember that your friends are there for you.

And as for Uncle Istvan, his deck is finished. Made it instantly when I had the chance. He even has his own sleeve, the torn black sleeve I picked up the floor, It just screams flavour.

Good luck on your little adventure!

Have a nice vacation, Northy!!

Oh...and I DO have a whole series of duel decks to suggest...

BEHOLD!!..... Commander duels!!

Not sure if you've done these before, but since most duels are about planeswalker versus another one, I thought EDH needs some, too. No need to make these ones budget, but if you can....sure.... And the commanders that would be nice to see at some point are those with less...uhh.."visibility"... Like "Tajic vs Melek" or "Varolz vs Odric"..... Of course, you'll probably get requests about stuff like "Mimeoplasm vs Oloro", too.

Anyways... enjoy the time in the woods ^^ Hyvää Juhannusta

Glass Cannon needs a huge pay off legendary creature (if the Goryo's package) which tend to be expensive

0
Posted 07 June 2015 at 17:50

1 griselbrand usually runs around $15, and I'm not saying that the cannon needs to be 80% effective, something like 20% is fine. and yes, goryo is very not budget (however animate dead runs about .87 i believe)

$15 isn't cheap just saying and why go for a deck that fails 80% of the time???

0
Posted 08 June 2015 at 06:04

heh. no, 15 for a card isn't cheap but A) budget for me is under $50, and B) even if it fails 80% of the time, it succeeds 20%, and as i'm not super concerned with tournaments (this a for-fun deck) that is perfectly acceptable

0
Posted 08 June 2015 at 13:08

Ah I see, I was talking in like the way that northy does budget, so I think we weren't reading off the same page!! I think if you're looking at a larger budget, say $100 you could make a pretty awesome deck

0
Posted 08 June 2015 at 15:38

i was thinking under $50 for the deck (with 1 griselbrand thats $35 to play around with), though it could be a charbelcher combo sort of thing too, griselbrand is optional. glass cannon just means t1 combo potential that is usually pretty fragile. the ones i have the most experience with are the reanimators with griselbrand but the deck i am looking for does not need that

I was wondering if you could work on a hexproof deck. Ive been playing with the idea of Domri Rade and Aegis of the gods. I ended up making it "fight" heavy. As hexproof doesnt exactly help attack/win. My deck was strictly r/w/g. Wouldnt have to stay that way tho. Have fun on vaca, cheers!

We need a 2nd hot page entitled "Northy".

0
Posted 14 June 2015 at 19:27

What you actually need to do is a) focussing more on all the other fantastic decks here and/or b) make some decks yourself. I like what Northy is doing but let's face it - the attention and praise he gets has meanwhile outgrown the actual quality of content. People flock to him because it's him and that's it. Here is his formula: Take any theme (usually a tribe or game mechanic), then add cards that fit the theme and more or less follow the mana curve until the deck is almost filled up (but avoiding expensive cards), then he adds some cheap staple cards (which are usually the same). Which is fine. But he did that 1000 times by now. 1000 times! How many times does he have to demonstrate to you how the card search works and that Putrefy is a nice removal spell that doesn't cost much money? By now his followers should be able to follow this simple formula themselves. At least that's what one would think.
Also, Northy is getting a bit lazy. Oftentimes his decks lack crucial elements or other things that could easily be fixed even within his budget limitations. Which, I cannot stess enough, is not to put Northy or his work down - anybody would get sloppy after churning out 1000 items of the same flavour. It still works (measured by likes, comments and front page appearances) so why should he change anything? But this is the thing, though, it's kind of a feedback loop that keeps everybody involved stagnant.

What I am saying is: Thank you Northy but it is time for everyone involved to move on. Which doesn't mean stop making decks (Northy) or stop checking out his new decks (everybody else). But it would be healthy for everybody involved and the site as a whole if users would pay attention to the "new" or "unloved" section here and then or would use the deck search to check out older decks (tags help!). Instead of treating the "hot" page as the only page there is. (And the site owners would do well if they made the "new" or "unloved" list the front page for that matter). Start commenting on other decks, get some more people involved, exchange deck critiques to keep this site alive. Because, as it is, if Northy drops Magic tomorrow, most of you would run circles like a headless chicken :)
I mean, he has a break from the internet now and STILL he has 2 decks and this article on the front page ... and yes, I am aware that this very post of mine helps keeping this particular article in the "hot" section, but that's not the point. I honestly don't begrudge Northy the attention he gets but pity all those deck builders out there that have created some amazing works but get buried here without notice. Most recent example for me would be Beowulf.

1
Posted 19 June 2015 at 08:48

To be fair with the decks not leaving for a while, some of mine are still there from the very start of my article writing, but to be honest, you're right, it was better when New was the main page, no idea why it changed!

very true budget is a nice place to start but you gotta add some $ to them most of the time you can build infect pretty cheap both 60 card modern or edh same with exalted I own edh of both and they are under $60 land improvements can bump them up but still not bad

0

Come on ... there must be hundreds of dragon decks here in Vault. And Thundermaw Hellkite isn't exactly a dragon with a special ability that you need to build a deck around. Heck, with his casting cost, p/t and abilities you can play him in any mid-range aggrodeck.

0
Posted 02 July 2015 at 08:03

Definitely agree there, in my honest opinion he's not even really that good...yes, the implications of his potential can be staggering...but just playing thunder maw hellkite doesnt do much..ever..

0
Posted 02 July 2015 at 11:31

Could literally look at any mardu dragons build, but thundermaw is pretty awesome, it usually gets played in Jeskai Control/Midrange in modern but seriously, its so easy, I use Decked builder when brewing, you just pop in what you're looking for and press the card when you want to put it in the deck, gatherer is fine for this too- any tribal deck can be mocked up in 10 minutes with a simple search, if you want to net deck a deck that's going to 100% win you games in a tournament or at the kitchen table, SCG or MTGGoldfish are your best bet

Yeah, but for some reasons people don't do that. Otherwise Northy wouldn't be such a celebrity ;)

I don't know why not, Travis Woo does awesome reasonably budget decks, and his could actually break even in a tournament, its no fun when people role over you, even if you just play for banter or for stories

Hey North, just discovered this site yesterday and liked your decks a lot, i even read posts on helping noobs such as myself with ideas, advice, council and questions. Only to find out I've missed out on a lot when you are active on here....now your gone?. Lol. Well to make it simple, ive been only playing for around 2 years, i play mtg with my friends for fun at my house almost every weekend. They are all very good, they play f.n.m and comps. They always kick my ass. I use black red and mono black. I've never used white, blue, green, but want to learn, evolve and explore new types. I randomly built a redwhite which did me well but they were not my cards and have no idea what actually built lol. I seem to be they type of student that would be worth your time and advice. To be honest i barley understand the lingo and all the full ability's and creatures or what the hell people are even trying to explain in their decks lol. But, rest assured I'm willing to learn and grow. I want to be good and know what the hell im doing. Please contact me when you get back,id like to stay in touch, oh. I'm Ben, I'm 27 and from Cali. Any help from your followers in the mean time is very great fully welcomed. Thank you. And the community. Cheers.

Hi Ben, what tournament formats do they play and the best way to really pick up a deck and win with it is to know it inside out, I can mock you up something that will crush them, from what you play it would probably be mono-red!
