Try to devastate opponent's resources quickly, then get your messengers and obliterators out to finish them off. Verdant catacombs allow for mana boost from Deathrite Shaman and Bayou enbles you to use all its abilities otherwise the deck is mono black. Blackmail is chosen over other discard options because it allows you to discard lands and is more effective the smaller the opponent's hand size becomes. Dark Ritual > Hymn to Tourach > Blackmail (if you are luck enough to get the combo first turn) can decimate your opponent's chances of winning from turn one if you can cut off their land supply. Attacking with Obliterators and Messangers is the obvious way to deal lots of damage, but the deck is very effective at pinching the opponent to death with Deathrite Shaman's {B}: ability in combination with sacrificing Geralf's Messengers to Small Pox.
