Deck Description

I have been working on this deck to counter a burn deck that one of my regular opponents has. Full of "Vexing Devil" and "Goblin Guide" and "Lightning Bolt", etc. It's usually pretty awful to go up against. Last night he and I played about nine games, and I think I lost once with this deck. I slapped him down like a red-mana-using stepchild. I'm still tinkering with the land-base to get it just right. I only need a little green, but I really need that green. Otherwise, the deck has functioned well even with certain pieces not falling into place.

How to Play

Getting "Tamanoa" or "Soulfire Grand Master" onto the field (or both) allows me to gain life, while hitting my opponent at the same time. If I hit my opponent with "Lightning Helix" and gain three life, I will gain additional life off of the creatures' abilities. This way, I can outpace any life-loss from my opponents side, while keeping up an offense. Hooking up one of the burn spells to "Isochron Scepter" allows constant use, and getting multiples of the creatures allows me to take hit after hit and keep going. "Anger of the Gods" won't kill "Tamanoa" but it will trigger his ability for each time it did damage for potentially huge life gain, while clearing the board. Hitting my opponent for three or six damage on a turn, and gaining twelve or more life happens fairly often.

Deck discussion for Naya Life/Burn

I made several changes to the deck since I posted it, including adding a deck description (sorry for not adding that!). I changed up the lands a bit, and plan to change it more when I get more copies of "Rootbound Crag". I moved "Anger of the Gods" to the mainboard and reduced the copies of "Fog" for now. "Boros Charm" I think is the only new addition.

Made another series of changes, added another creature ("Chandra's Phoenix" for some flying attack power, and it will keep coming back as I cast spells), working on the land some more to make it flow easier, and I changed the name because the "turbo" part of it has been trimmed down as well as the fog.

Another round of sweeping changes, especially for the land base. With the release of "Modern Masters 2017" I actually got my hands on fetch lands to make the mana flow easier and thin out the deck a bit so I draw fewer lands late game (hopefully). I took out the "fog", "howling mine" and "Chandra's phoenix" cards and added the "Ajani Vengeant", the "Molten Vortex" (to get rid of unwanted lands), "Guttersnipe" to deal more damage and more "boros charms". This deck went from relatively inexpensive to gross because of the lands, which I'm not crazy about, but it does work pretty well. I actually want to add in more green spells to make use of the green mana I can generate, anyone have any ideas in that regard?

I realize this deck is a little older, but I love Tamanoa/Soulfire decks! One thing you gotta try is Searing Meditation or Pyrohemia. I'd suggest -1 Molten Vortex, -1 Ajani, then +2 either of those. They both work so well, I think you'll really like them.
