Deck Description

Ok, so Laboratory Maniac is like a dream come true for us combo Johnnies.
(For explanation of who is a Johnny please see https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/timmy-johnny-and-spike-2013-12-03)

Instead of telling you how this deck works, I thought I'd explain my thought process to building a combo deck.

First I have to decide what is the best version of the combo and what color or colors I want to do it in.

The card Laboratory Maniac is blue so you'd think I'd automatically think some library discard engine engine like Leveler and lots of counterspells and of course Laboratory Maniac.
And yes I very briefly I thought about Leveler and Laboratory Maniac but I hate the cost of Leveler at 5 mana. The only way to truly efficiently play the Leveler is to reanimate it (black) or goblin welder (red) or maybe tinker or show and tell).
I also thought about Aphetto Alchemist and Mesmeric Orb and Laboratory Maniac but I really don't like 3 card combos that much unless they can protect themselves.

So just after a few seconds thinking I decided against an all blue deck as I could not think of a fast enough combo in blue.

So next I thought if I'm not going to do blue I better go black with heavy discard to protect the combo. Next I'm thinking how to get Laboratory Maniac into play fast and Dark Ritual, Entomb and Reanimate come to mind, my discard protection is Thoughtsieze, Cabal Therapy. I good portion of my deck done. Time to do some research.

I remember I recently learned about a crazy Eggs combo deck which uses some black card to discard your whole library into your graveyard I just need to look up the name of the card. Few seconds on Google and I rediscover, Undercity Informer, is the card I am looking for I just need to limit my mana sources to artifacts and 1 swamp to make it work.

Ok so the deck is coming together but its sort of short on mana and doesn't have much protection if something hexproof, unblockable, and fast comes at me turn two (I'm looking at you Infect). Small Pox and Waste Not leap to my mind and the deck is pretty much finished. I just need some finishing touches (Songs of Damn and Blood Pet) and I'm done.

Time taken to build deck:
1 to 2 minutes deciding what color deck is going to be and what card package I'll be using to protect combo.
About 1 minute to look up of name of black combo card I didn't remember.
About 2-3 minutes thinking about weakness of deck and what will help it be more competitive.
20-30 minutes mentally debating finishing touches for deck.
Total time to make deck just about 35 minutes.

Total time to type up this description about half hour.

Hoping this deck isn't a waste of your time.

May you always make your own good luck.

Deck discussion for Stupid Combo Deck #6

Bravo!!! Bravo!!!
This is one Maniac deck that would really be fun to play, pity about the absurd cost to get all the cards you need.

Glad you like the deck. Cost isn't so bad if you play casual and with lots of proxies ;-)).
This site provides a very nice Poxy this deck link under Deck Options.
Any deck you'd like me to look at?

I actually have a combo for you: Bile Urchin and Supernatural Stamina. For a two card combo I'd think it would make a pretty stupid deck.

Bile urchin and Supernatural Stamina Stamina may not be as good as think.

1. Bile urchin enchanted with Supernatural Stamina
2. Sacrifice Bile Urchin do 1 point damage to opponent
3. Super Natural returns Bile urchin to play tapped and +2 in power
4. Sacrifice Bile Urchin again and do 1 point damage to opponent
5. Bile Urchin goes to graveyard and stays there as it no longer enchanted by Supernatural Stamina it lost that ability when it was resurrected from graveyard at step 3. Can't infinitely resurrect Bile Urchin.

But perhaps that was not the intent. Maybe you just wanted a 3/1 tapped creature for 2 mana but the +2 is only until end of turn so I really don't see the point other than you can do 2 points damage and have a creature die twice for 2 mana and the creatures death might be use to fuel various death triggers with Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat.

But you know all this because you already have made such a deck at http://www.mtgvault.com/anon88/decks/vile-nuisance/. And while I'll grant you Bile Urchin and Supernatural Stamina is a stupid combo I like really powerful stupid combos where I can infinity sacrifice a creature like 2 gravecrawlers + Phyrexian Altar or 2myr retrievers + Ashnod's Altar, 2 myr retrievers + heartless summoning and goblin bombardment + Saber Ants + sadistic glee.

Hmmm, that reminds me its been awhile since I abused Saber Ants and I'm sure pretty sure I can make better and faster deck now that Broodhatch Nantuko have become available. Thanks for inspiring my next Stupid Combo deck!!!

I am afraid you are mistaken here, Supernatural Stamina clearly states:

Until end of turn, target creature gets +2/+0 and gains "When this creature dies, return it to the battlefield tapped under its owner's control."

In other words, till the end of your turn you can sack it for infinite life loss. The effect remains in the play as it allows the creature to die while retaining the second "triggered" ability.

Ok Anon88, I'm not a MTG Judge but this is what I have read about Super Natural Staminia
taken from https://www.reddit.com/r/Pauper/comments/65d15m/akh_supernatural_stamina/

So, the way this reads and correct me if i'm wrong. but can i sac a creature with this effect (Super Natural Stimina) to carrion feeder repeatedly? or does the effect go away after it dies once?

Filipe_AguiarAzorius
I think that the creature that returns from graveyard is another instance. So, no you can't.
Once the creature returns to the battlefield it's a different creature. So you can't do this forever.

Another reading from the MTG Wiki rules
https://mtg.gamepedia.com/Persist

When a permanent with persist is put into a graveyard and then returns to the battlefield, it becomes a new object with no memory of its previous existence. It has "summoning sickness."

I'm pretty sure I'm correct. Feel free to check with MTG rules people on site.
Also if Supernatural Stamina did do this you would see it played a lot more than Rancor at competitive level as
Dark ritual + Bile Urchin + Supernatural Stamina + Vecera Seer would be a turn 1 win and I have never seen any discussion of a turn 1 win with Supernatural Stamina.
