This is meant to be a variation of Death's Shadow, using the ability of Varolz to get 13 +1/+1 counters for ONE BLACK MANA.Dryad Arbor is also here to act as both a land and a free counter to anything, while also being a land.If anyone has a better way to search for Death's Shadow or send it into the grave, please let me know.
Main idea is to get Death's Shadow into the grave as soon as possible, then get out Varolz and have his passive pass off the 13 counters to a creature.Use them on cards like Spire Tracer, Charging Badger or Lotleth Troll to almost guarantee the damage goes through.

I have really been out of the game since Theros and Kahns. But for this type of deck I think that searching would be better than straight-up self mill. The only card that I really desire to mill is Death's Shadow, after all!
Desire is one thing, but varolz ability can make any creature in the graveyard into a pump spell.Most of the selfmill is centered on black and green creatures which can serve as both pump and things to pump.I'm particularly fond of the two nasty voles bit that was brought to us by the three sets.Mill based voles are down with trolls ;)It doesn't get more monstrous than that.[[Ravenous gigamole]] [[excavation mole]][[Graf mole]]You can also [[dig deep]] with [[colossal badger]]But thats a bit outlandish and probably illegal;)

Sounds good for a deck idea on its own! Might look into that one eventually. But, it's like I said before. This deck is more about getting just Death's Shadow into the grave than just using Varolz's ability.Love that WotC is supporting the meme themes though.
To maximize on those +1/+1 counters you might add a couple hydras.Witherbloom Command has some utility and self mill. To specifically tutor for Death's Shadow you can use Unmarked Grave.I crafted something like the following: https://www.mtgvault.com/grassfrog/decks/deaths-scavengers/
The Hydras aren't a bad idea, but I have concerns about how quickly a game of Modern format MtG can go and if that interaction is even legal because of the wording of Varolz.Unmarked Grave is EXACTLY what I was looking for though! Thanks for that suggestion.
