Deck discussion for first strike/ deathtouch

student of warfare, basilisk collar, stoneforge mystic
with the first two attatched you can swing every turn and your life total will be ridiculous
and no creature can kill a creature with doublestrike+deathtouch
and emerge unscathed would help

A creature with first strike could or double Cause combat damage would be dealt at the same time The creature just wouldn't survive

and thats why they made doomblade lightning bolt journey to nowhere etc etc nothings unbeatable but yes firststrike deathtouch is rediculous, my girlfriend has a glissa deck that really sucks to play against if you dont have alot of removal

Not bad. I almost think going mono-white would benefit you considerably. With only 6 black cards you'd have to think if it's worth it.

Instead, consider adding some removal to protect yourself. First Strike and Deathtouch is all well and good, but it sends a clear sign to your opponent to not block anything (and Crossbow Infantry might not always be online and ready). When that happens, it can come down to basic aggro. Swords to Plowshares would be a great consideration here in place of some of the black.

Also, with 16 artifact/enchantments to get to, consider Enlightened or Idylic Tutor to help fetch up some of your tools. The combination of 4 Swords, 1 Enlightened, and 1 Idylic will keep you at 60 cards (of course, swapping out the swamps for plains) and make your mana base much easier to maintain as it can't get screwed by color.

I welcome any comments or criticism on any of the decks I have posted here on the site (just click on my name to see the deck list). Thanks in advance!

haha, how did you guess? my original deck idea was mono white, but i couldn't get enough deathtouch with only artifacts, so i added black. i'm on a budget, so those cards might not work, but i like the idea of some removal

If you're on a budget, make sure you go out of the way to pick up 4 Dispatchs when they get released with NP. With Metalcraft, they will be the best removal in standard. Otherwise, I think you'd be surprised how inexpensive you might be able to find things on eBay. The Enlightened's are a little high, but Swords to Plowshares shouldn't be too bad, and they are a good investment for any casual or legacy deck.

okay, thanks. i'll check it out. there's also a card store near me that sells all cards for 25 cents, but they're random. i'm planning on looking for cards there

I feel like thornbite staff will not contribute a lot to this deck since the only shaman creature you have is vampire nighthawk, and since the equip cost is so high it will be hard to use on anything else, but thats just a thought

There's more you can do with deathtouch since it states damage and not combat damage. Thus any direct damage you can attach Basilisk Collar/Gorgon Flail to can kill without attacking. Same goes for infect creatures and direct damage. Something to think about.

I would throw some triskelions in there with basilisk collar on them.

nice deck, how expensive is it?

not very. besides the basilisk collars, which go for about 4.50, nothing was more than $2

Idk how well crossbow infantry has been working for you. Maybe something like viridian longbow on a creature that already has deathtouch would be better

I'd say get rid of black and get yourself some Cunning Sparkmage's. attach gorgon flail or Basilisk collar and you have yourself a super death ray. And if your worried about removal then just throw in some L-bolts or Flame Slash's then you would be set.

Grave Titan with Sword of Vengeance. go ahead. take it in and enjoy it. ;) There are ways to do it very cheaply (mana cost wise)

Kazandu Blademaster with Basilisk Collar has become one of my favorite set-ups lately. Never mind his power and toughness, they're irrelevant. It's the combination of deathtouch, first strike, lifelink, and vigilance that makes him so awesome.

black knght and white knight or something like that, 2 for 2/2 first strikes I believe also have protection from the opposite color...also death pits of wrath or something really helps in a first strike deck =) hope I helped,

Porcelain Legionnaire would be a GREAT addition to this build. Aside from offering you a 3/1 First Striker, he also brings you exceptional speed and establishes himself as an early threat that is often more trouble than people think.

You could also consider splashing in Death Pits of Rath which plays amazingly well with First Strike and other abilities like pingers. I have an example of this here: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=161817.

Hope these ideas help. If you get a chance, take a look at one of the decks I have posted here, I'd love your input (click on my name to see the deck list).

Thanks for the help everyone! I'm considering taking out the black here for red. What do you think? (I'd love comments on the new deck)

if you go red stand out f/s creatures for me appear to be Plated Geopede, Pouncing Kavu, Rockslide Elemental, but i have to say none of them particualy excite me !, and no viable deathtouch !, although i accept that you add your death touch through your artifacts, basalisk collar is particlay nice, one thing to consider if you go red is removal red dos ths through damage rather than destroying, so against fast stuff lightning bolts shocks ectect are great and will leave them with less blockers might get your double strikers through ! however against anything big your gonna struggle red has shivan meteor 13 damage but its 5 to cast and 2 red in that casting cost, personaly i think stick with black !, you have onyx mage that can give all your 1st strikes deathtouch, as it doesnt tap !, and is good value itself, if your running white you simply must have x 4 mirrian crusaders ! i knw there 2 white in c/c but double strike prop 2 colours come on ! its so worth it !

like the concept and the description, good luck with it hpe i helped.

if u did want to mix it up a bit you could go the other way playing shed loads of black death touch creatures and adding instants equipments and artifacts that add frst strike this might increase your options, black has lots of death touch then your looking at things like assault strobe, and thunder strike, Fireshrieker, Grappling Hook, Akroma's Memorial (ace but poss a bit slow for the sort of deck your talking) bladed pinions and Helm of Kaldra No-Dachi are all good options. and cheap, these on hoards of black death touch may give more options. just an idea to mix it up as you where considering switching it around anyway good deck as it stands though

if you can could you hit my name link and check out my smallpox deck, bloodthirst and angelic destiny, as the help would be great, many thanks.

I like this deck, first strike deathtouch is just such a natural combination of abilities that has amazing synergy. I actually incorporate deathtouch with goblin sharpshooter in my goblin deck http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=229571 to get a similar interaction.
