Deck Description

Updated Sept. 16, 2017

I've made some minor adjustments from this Top Deck from 2012.

The core of the deck plays the same, but I've since main-decked AEther Spellbombs for the bounce (protection) and draw ability since the deck was seriously missing some decent card advantage/manipulation. Preordain has entered in place of Serum Visions. The newest addition, however, has been the Lightning Greaves.

I do not have any Suq'ata Firewalkers or they would be in the deck in place of the Spellcasters (Tim has to stay for the deck's namesake).

Top Deck: June, 2012

Typical Prodigal Sorcerer/Curiosity/Mind Over Matter combo deck. The nuts and bolts are pretty standard.

Enchant "Tim" (Prodigal Sorcerer), the Spellcaster, or the Rootwater Hunters with Curiosity, ping for one, draw a card from Curiosity's effect, and discard a card to Mind Over Matter to untap him and repeat.

Sigil is added for control/protection until MoM can drop. Counterspell to prolong your survivability as MoM takes a while to play. Saprazzan Skerry, the Top, and Skullclamp offer acceleration and quality.

Trinket Mage was a great addition as of late. Adding in cards like Meekstone, Sol Ring, and more notably, Skullclamp, has really helped address issues and utility along the way.

If you like this, or want criticize me further, feel free to take a look at my other decks. Insight is always appreciated.

Deck discussion for Tim's Curious MoM v3

what if u could work something like Guile into the build?? when against an opp who has a larger than norm life count u could technicaly fo inf for the damage. wicked idea all in all.

I've actually run into this problem before. That is why I have 2 copies of Reminisce in my sideboard. Worst case scenario, I shuffle the graveyard into my library and continue the chain. While it is dependent on mana, perhaps Feldon's Cane would be a better alternative to Reminisce.

Thanks for your continued support. I will definitely look into Guile, though the casting cost concerns me. It's hard enough to get Mind Over Matter onto the board with such little acceleration as it is.

yah i think the cane is a little better but u also have to watch for the best time to play it. as for guile, he would be there more as a discard card than a playable card. but if u had to u deff could play him. np feel free to comment on any of mine if u want. later.

I would suggest elixir of immortality instead of the cane, just because you can keep reusing it.

I was gonna recommend Feldon's Cane, and if you wanted to change this deck up a bit, you could use the Tim/Curiosity combo inside a Tolarian Academy deck nicely--if you have a couple of those $35 cards laying around, lol.

Have you thought about a u/r version- I have a u/r ping deck as well, although i dont have the combo seeing as i just happen not to have any copies of curiosity, but it works well with additional pingers from red, a bit of burn, and of course, niv-mizzet with a curiosity cuts ur combo down to only 2 cards for lethal. Take a look at mine if you want to see how I go about it:

My friend has an incredibly aggravating Tim deck that also uses Curiosity and Sigil of Sleep. Instead of Lightning Greaves, though, he uses Pemmin's Aura so he can pay U to give it shroud or to untap it. If this deck gets into a tight spot, you might end up with a lightning greaves stopping you from enchanting your creatures. But you get the haste and low mana cost in trade, of course.

Switch the Greaves for Swiftfoot Boots (Equipped creature has *hexproof* and haste). The only drawback is it's 1 colorless to equip. other then that is a solid, clean deck.

You cold always use Rune Snag instead of Counterspell to tap out their mana and help you survive till you get out your combo. Other than that tid bit, it's still a soild deck with or without.

Stasis and Fatespinner early on might help slow your opponent down a bunch untill you have enough mana to play your MoM. Stasis may affect some of your current stragity but Fatespinner is nice as you don't really need a combat phase.

How cool would it be to run counter top with this deck?! Be total control, I do like the build, im not as experienced with mind over matter, but deff would be sweet to combine countertop in this!

I love decks like these! It's strategy at its best. I do think your creatures are a bit fragile, even with Aether Spellbomb. Discard decks could get you cornered very fast, so maybe it's ok to main Pemmin's Aura? I don't really know what you could take out, but it's just an intuition.

Also, Surgical Extraction is always a danger. Counterbalance is more than able to deal with it.

Love that combo!!!

Nice combo but I think 'Mind over matter' is extremely akward to get out quickly with no mana acceleration and any cards that are discarded are lost, try 'High Tide' if you need some blue mana acceleration. If you wanted to beef up your creatures but keep this type of ability you could add 'Fatestitcher' in to get the same ability and have a creature that could block and be unearthed. Even just adding him to your deck and discarding him with 'Mind over matter' and unearthing him afterwards.

What about adding Tolarian Academy, 4 Seat of the Synod, and Stroke of Genius? The Academy could help fuel the MoM, while Stroke offers an alternate kill con with the Academy.

very cool but other than counterspell do you have anyway to protect your enchantments from naturlize moritfy or oblivion ring very cool combo just seems pretty beatable with one good destroy you could run noxious revival in your sideboard to help protect against things like that

I could add in Vedalken Mastermind for bounce, but that can be handled just as easily. Thoughts?

I ised to run Lightning Greaves in the build, but replaced them for Meekstone. Skullclamp could come out as it stands now, im thinking of implementing an Academy.

Good call on Noxious, made that change.

An easier way to do this is to just run Niv-Mizzet. Then you don't need Curiosity, but Curiosity plus more pingers adds consistency. I would still suggest adding Niv-Mizzet though.
