So the only problem I keep running into with the flip cards is I rarely hit a lull where no one casts a spell, and I can flip them. have you encountered that, or is it just my bad luck so far?

I ended up playing a 4 of Village Messenger because its easy to flip if no one has turn one plays. Outside of that I use Moonmist in a pinch and it tends to work especially with Immerwolf seeing as how they don't turn back.
