Deck Description

This deck is designed to slowly choke your opponents out with counterspell abilities, allowing you to control the pace of the match. Erayo is the keystone piece which brings the deck together. Ertai and Tradewind Rider provide backup control, allowing you to block your opponents' attempts to regain control over the pace of the game as well as protect your side of the board, especially Erayo, from removal.

A ton of scry and draw effects also allow you to manage your own pace and control what cards you draw, ensuring that as few *dead* turns/draws as possible. The idea is that while you are casting spells and drawing cards as much as possible, your opponents are basically immobilized, allowing you to defeat them at your own pace.

Sideboard contains cards I've considered adding to the deck. Feel free to comment and make some suggestions, it'll help me out!

How to Play

The main goal of the deck is to summon and flip Erayo as quickly as possible. Ideally it would happen by turn 3 or 4 via Repeal + Ornithopter combo. The flip combo works by playing Ornithopter, bouncing it back to the hand with Repeal, and then playing Ornithopter again. That's 3 spells for 1 mana, so if you have 3 mana available, then you can summon and flip Erayo by turn 3, at the earliest.

The only quicker way would be to summon Erayo as well as 3 Ornithopters on turn 2, which is certainly possible, but definitely an exception to the norm. Tidal Bore could also be useful for flipping Erayo by paying the alternative cost (bouncing an island back to the hand) instead of the mana cost, but hopefully it wouldn't come to that, as it not only burns a relatively useful card, but also puts you at a disadvantage in terms of mana. Of course, the benefits of a flipped Erayo *should* outweigh the setbacks of a lost spell and a bounced island.

There are plenty of draw effects to help you sift through the deck, so unless you have a terribly bad shuffle there's no reason to not expect to set the combo up reasonably early in the game. Long-Term Plans provides a useful tutor ability that combos extremely well with Preordain, Halimar Depths, and the various cycle and cycle-like abilities within the deck.

Against decks that are packed with counterspells and removal abilities, you should wait an extra turn so that you have some spare mana to throw Force Spike or Mage's Guile out to protect Erayo while it is vulnerable.

Once Erayo is flipped, you can slowly choke your opponents out with cards like Ertai, Tradewind Rider, and Arcane Lab. Training Grounds allows you to abuse Ertai's activated ability and Tidal Bore is included in the unlikely scenario that you actually need to use Ertai or Tradewind Rider *twice* in a row. Arcane Lab is kind of overkill, but it effectively shuts down your opponent's turns.

You win either by slowly chipping away at their health with Delver or with one big swing from Ludevic's Abomination (transformed from Ludevic's Test Subject). If for some reason you need more time or the opponent has somehow managed to make it past the wall of counterspells, you can always use Elixir of Immortality to refill your library with spells and gain a little extra life.

Save Meditate for *after* you've flipped Erayo. In a pinch, use Repeal on an Ornithopter for the near-free draw. The mana curve is fairly low, so don't be afraid to cycle Lonely Sandbar and other cards as you try to power through the deck.
