The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Edward munch created "the scream", a childish looking painting that somehow became iconic. There are many reasons why the person in the painting is screaming.
He could be home alone with a cheap aftershave, or perhaps he has learned about the modal lands from zendikar rising, that are spells in all zones except in play or when cast.

That means that a self milling mindshrieker may make your opponent scream their lungs out when they realise just how frequent you will mill a large spell.

Edward munch would have been proud if he had painted some mindshriekers in "the scream" to really give the screamer a good reason.

I currently use the tag:
Mill winter
On my mill decks because me and some other mtgvaulters think mill might dominate modern for 3 to 6 months comming, since the next release to fix a swarm of mill based on cards from zendikar rising will be at the end of december. In worst case scenarios mill will dominate into March.

Mill winter is coming...

How to Play

You are likely to open the game with a couple of before the game start effects.
Leylines and chancellors should show your opponent some tough love before any of you get an upkeep.

Force of negation is meant to abuse the chancellors that are otherwise useless during the rest of the game unless you get enough mana to play one.

Try to hold back on playing mindshrieker until you got either spellskite or kira in play.

Theres usually stall enough to kill with mill alone, so mindshrieker is really just a cool way to honor edward munch.

Oh the shrieks.

(Note that shriekmaw also fits the theme)

While I wait for zendikar rising to be legal so I can start studying other peoples mill, I've been busy toying with some possible designs myself.

See what crazy milltypes I got by searching the tag:

Deck discussion for Birds of Edward munch

Why not use something like consuming aberration or balatrude spy?

Consuming aberration has a high cost but cannot be cast for a lower price like most of the other 5 costs.
It could replace chancellor of the Spires, but both mindshrieker and force of negation would suffer from it. The chancellor mills 7 or is itself milled or stored as force fodder. It could replace archive trap because we got no trap trigger.

Mind funeral mills about 12 cards on an average (perhaps closer to 11) this average can be divided based on the lands involved, so on average each land equates a mill of three cards on average. Balustrade spy should therefore mill 3 cards on average too, which is a bit too low for my tastes. There is also enough removal to cover its function as a blocker.

Thematically I think edward would be screaming with glee at a sphinx and collapsing bookshelves.
I must obey the themes this time ;)
