The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

While working on a largescale project where I intent to beat the modern format with commoncards I experienced a small series of events, where trying to create a version of lantern control with commoncards only, I stumbled into another unexpected concept.

Mudbutton clanger allows you to see the top of your library, and if you like what you see, then you draw the card. If you don't like it you need to get rid of it, and I needed to somehow give you more choices when that happens. Shenanigans gave the option of destroying an artifact. With myr servitor you will be able to cast shenanigans over and over, dredging unwanted cards. With myr landshaper you get to do the same and cripple their manabase.

This is as far as I got before I realised that this could actually become a new pauper archetype.

My research was only done with modern cards, so in pauper you will probably have a lot more cards to expand on the theme.

The best aspect in my oppinion is the way that you get partially control of what you draw, which is likely to be a hell of a trick if you aim for a deck with many tricks.

I'd welcome any extra ideas you guys can think of, but I hope for modern legal cards.

This will become a halfdeck. Read more about my halfdeck project in this link:

I also warn people about posting/storing personal data in mtgvault (or other parts of the internet) for example, posting when you will participate in a tournament will let thieves know you are out of your house. They may very well have your name and adress from stalking you home from a past tournament, and the decks you make public might hint at your collection size. Accounts with dumb passwords may be hacked so if you use mtgvault as a notepad, always keep in mind that someone might one day read it...

Finally, my warnings against thieves has resulted in a lot of spam by thieves and they frequently use several accounts to downvote everything I say in public. This means my comments are frequently exiled. You can read them by clicking with your mouse on the [+] near the exiled comment.

It's also a very good indication that they are still around, if you want to take a punch at them, simply upvote my comments whenever you can.

Deck discussion for Help with new pauper archetype

Myr Retriever could be an option as you can destroy it using Shenanigans and get some of your artifacts back. The problem I have with Mudbutton Clanger is that the only way to manipulate the top card is Shenanigans, and if you don't have one of the in your hand or graveyard, you will draw the card, no matter what you do. Another option would be the use of Runed Stalactite to quickly empower Mudbutton Clanger, no matter what creature you draw and with so many artifacts already in the deck, you could go for red artifact and throw in things like Fling, Galvanic Blast or even Atog

Runed stalactite its a pretty nice move, and I've considered myr servitor as well as shenanigans can then be used turn after turn to "clear" the top. The mention of some carddraw engine would also be a thing to build towards.

I have designed 2 versions that built on your core, a boros and a mono red version, and run them against some of my benchmark decks.
https://www.mtgvault.com/muktol/decks/wr-pauper-mudbutton-clanger/
https://www.mtgvault.com/muktol/decks/monor-pauper-mudbutton-clange/

Boros works a little bit better due to the lifegain (Lunarch Veteran // Luminous Phantom was chosen over one of the Soul Sisters for simple price reasons) and the removal can handle larger creatures. On the other side it lacks the aggressiveness of Atog
The biggest issue was persistance, as I had many games with Mudbutton Clanger on the field, but no Runed Stalactite, or games where I wasn't able to draw and use Shenanigans or Darksteel Pendant. Belly-feeling tells me that Darksteel Pendant is the better option to manipulate your library, tough Shenanigans can be more useful when playing against artifact themed decks.
Another issue was aggressive play, the only way to stop something big long enough would be two Myr Retriever, or two Myr Servitor and only if it lacks trample or another form of evasion.

After the first tests with mudbutton clanger and stalactite most of the stalactite are starting to show a stabilisation, which is a bad sign in the long run, because when new cards are introduced they usually start to fade out. One stalactite is showing signs of being keep able. Ironically not because of the clanger, but when enough removal has been cast then a single stalactite can be good enough as a boost.

The overall problem with stalactite in my builds is that it costs 2 to equip in a 20 land deck.

Only two of the landscaper myr seems to be keep able, so the ld aspect will be longterm and the deck is becoming control. Evolution always design control decks, and I have no idea why, as I prefer aggro but have learned to live with the quirk.

I also think darksteel pendant might be the card that gets the concept there in the end.

Myr servitor does stop merfolk for a short period of time, but the real thing will probably be lots of removal.

I think maybe a variant with myr enforcer and it's cousin sojourner might be an idea.
When I looked at grixis affinity I thought, "why haven't people switched to sojourner?" It has 1 more ability which is damn usefull when manascrewed...

I guess people are afraid of not having it later so people who has tried it out have become scared of that extra possibility. It's why I prefer negate myself, sometimes the extra option is the thing that makes you play bad.

In the end.
Darksteel pendant + shenanigans are sort of support
And mudbutton is clearly vulnerable, so the main question is more or less, can the rest of the deck be built into a big shell that can use the clanger just enough to win because of it.

The same question has been asked by lantern players, so in terms of answers, the shell must have an amount of removal that at minimum matches that of lantern builds.

And make the builds public, I can't link with the phone

[[Sojourner's Companion]] is banned in pauper, if you mean this card with "it's cousin sojourner"

I've experimented a little bit with Krark-Clan Shaman, which can be used to deal with swarm decks, but this would require a lot more card-draw and/ or creatures with a higher toughness.

I think if you want to mimic a lantern deck (I just quickly read a guide for this deck, so don't throw rocks at me if I'm wrong ;) ) Architects of Will and some flicker would be your best chance, combined with Darksteel Pendant

Yeah I meant sojourners companion.
That was a quick ban...

Theres a number of goblins with protection red, and some might be common if you want to keep at krark-clan shaman.

The two halves I work on at the moment is "colony" based on Rat Colony and a prototype clanger.

I've been thinking about running one of the cards similar to goblin bombardment because of myr servitor in the deck.

MH2 was released on 18 June 2021 and the ban was announced 8 September 2021.

Or a combination of Goblin Bombardment and Impact Tremors] tough that would drift away from your original idea.

instead you could also make an artifact deck, or plain myrs, with myr battlesphere

As long as it is commoncards it can become part of the project.
The way I design it means that it often drift from one idea into another and sometimes I try to merge two strategies at once. I basically suggests the cards and then play testing reveals if any new idea has more merit.
Results are always pretty crazy in the end.
