Deck Description

I like Vexing Devil. I understand that makes me a filthy casual and a bad player according to some very vocal detractors, but I have been trying to find a home for him in a place where Goblin Guide isn't clearly the better card for it's slot. I've been making kiln fiend decks since kiln fiend dropped and I have built a lot of decks that include it as a staple. There's few things that make me happier than swinging for lethal turn three and it's something KF excels at. My problem has been finding buddies for kiln fiend. Monastery Swiftspear was just a natural add. It's like a mini Fiend with haste. Unfortunately, I can't play more than four of either. So I played Blistercoil Weird, and it feels like a crappy knockoff of MS. Enter Vexing Devil.

This is an all-or-nothing deck with few creatures juiced for a big payoff. You're not going to survive very well against a deck that is heavy on removal, so you might have to get as much damage through as you can early with this deck and then hold out for Ball lightning, which you can then pump and fling into the grandstands. It may not win you a bunch of FNMs, but those turn 3 and 4 wins against unprepared opponents might just make it worth your time. In the right meta (famous last words) I think it might just be fast and hard enough to catch your opponents off guard.

Oh man, just discovered immolating souleater. Another turn 3 win engine. Sign me the hell up!

How to Play

Cast creatures and then buff the hell out of them. Push your damage through with trample or by removing blockers with lightning bolt. If you can no longer brute force your way through then fling your buffed creatures for lethal. Temur Battle Rage loves kiln fiend and vexing devil, turning either into 4 power summons with double strike and trample. Your opponent eats 4 damage rather than letting VD resolve? Fine. now you only have to push through 16 damage, something Kiln Fiend excels at.
