Deck Description

The otherwise unplayable card Norin the Wary is a key component in this little combo deck. The Viashino return-to-hand-at-EOT-creatures fulfill the same role.

Whenever anyone plays a spell or a creature attacks, Norin will be exiled, so that's likely to happen nearly every turn. So we can use two little Enchantments that make use of creatures coming into play: Confusion in the Ranks (to steal all opposing creatures, since Norin will always come back under our control when he comes back and the Viashinos will return to our hand) and Pandemonium (be aware that can be risky at times and it should be carefully planned when to play it).

Some little helpers: Cream of the Crop to find the items more quickly, Primal Forcemage to maximize Pandemonium and Cream of the Crop, and some acceleration (Seething Song, Sol Ring).

This deck is pure budget - as long as you use Idyllic Tutor instead of Enlightened, and even more budget-firendly if you want to try it without the Tutors first. That does NOT include the lands. Those lands are admittedly NOT budget deckbuilding compatible. That list is based on what I own on MtGO and should be adapted to whatever platform / format / budget you're dealing with.

tell you what, that's a quality deck, i knew there must be some way to utilize an indestructable card. indirectly is the answer lol.

If you want to be really cruel and unpredictable check out these cards Aluren, Arrest and Grid Monitor.

You should play Confusion in the Ranks and Grid Monitor first so that your opponent is screwed, then use the combo you have created.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments.

Regarding "quality deck": This deck has first been published by Chris Millar on House of Cards at magicthegathering.com - that's the Johnny column ;-) I built it first in paper (mono-red) where it sucked most of the time (way too slow). On MtGO, I added green (for Cream, Worldly Tutor and the Forcemage) and white (for Enlightened Tutor), fine-tuned the numbers, and it works pretty well now :D (I exclusively play casual, and nobody has ever complained about the deck being not casual enough)

Regarding "indestructible": I have indeed seen opponents on MtGO who tried to get rid of Norin with a spot removal spell (seems they just had to try to learn how Norin works). On the other hand, Norin isn't "indestructible" at all - he can be destroyed by abilities that destroy creatures or force a player to sacrifice and by abilities that deal damage (Prodigal Sorcerer & the like).

Card suggestions:
- Aluren: I think I would be outrunned by the opponent far too often. Without Confusion in play, it seems too risky. Otherwise a fine addition, maybe I'll give it a try.
- Arrest: I don't understand how this card could contribute. I could only play it on opponent's creatures, but I want to steal them, so?
- Grid Monitor: This is indeed very mean, but quite risky on the other hand. What if my opponent plays creatureless? Nearly dead card. And if he does, my opponent would get control of it when I play it, but I'd had to take it back sooner or later. Nearly every game where I get the Confusion into play have all creatures ending up on my side (with the exceptions being those games where the opponent naturalizes the Confusion).
