o and by the way it deals with fast aggro by playing lil chump blockers that get out land faster and stall th eopponent a bit

it works folks don't argue on that just watch th emovie

Deck discussion for extended (scapeshift+valakut)

Why play less then 4 valakut's?? They are not legendary so having 4 of them in play is something you should go for at all times. 12 damage per mountain !

nope not at all you don't really understand the system do you?

look having 4 valakut's in play makes me have less than 6 mountains

4 valakuts mean nothing
if land destruction cards didn't exist i would even only play 1 valakut
the second valakut is just a backup

if i should have 4 valakut's and 5 mountains i would have to wait at least turn 5 or something before i can activate scapeshift
what is much too slow

I don't play extended (only legacy and T2) so you are right, I don't get your build. You can accelerate into what, 7 land by turn 4 if everything works out really well, then what? Zoo will kill you before you can ever do lethal damage and that's without all their lifegain.
I'm not really familar with the rest of the decks in the format but I'm guessing you'll have a hard time surviving long enough to survive into mid game where you might start hurting them. No offense intended it's just an observation. In my opinion if you have to play Valakut play it 4 times, use green to ramp and red to burn. You can't make a GR build better by putting blue into it for a few counterspells and a bit o bounce.
My mono red legacy deck kills in 4 turns and is a good matchup against many legacy decks but it can't deal with a lifegain extended zoo build. So I'm guessing your deck can't either.

I don't think this is a valid combo, imho the Daily MTG budget guy is wrong on this one.

valakut checks that you control 5+ mountains when a mountain is played...when scapeshift resolves and you drop all of them you don't control 5 mountains until AFTER they're all in play.

LOL I didn't get it until seras pointed it out :) I'm with seras on this one. You need 5 mountains in play and only the sixed mountain will deal the first 3 damage. Permanents don't enter simultaniously, you chose the order they come in play. So valakut, mountain, mountain, mountain, mountain, mountain, and then the next mountain will deal 3 damage :)

well they can enter play simultaneously

what they can't do is both be 'in play' and 'entering play' simultaneously

YELLING PROVES YOUR POINT!!!

someone was kind enough to post the pertinent ruling in the discussion thread for the article:

"603.6a Enters-the-battlefield abilities trigger when a permanent enters the battlefield. These are written, “When [this object] enters the battlefield, . . . “ or “Whenever a [type] enters the battlefield, . . .” Each time an event puts one or more permanents onto the battlefield, all permanents on the battlefield (including the newcomers) are checked for any enters-the-battlefield triggers that match the event."

still doesnt seem logical to me but if that's how the rules are applied then that's all there is to it :)

ok, it seems to be valid and well placed in the current meta. Good luck with the deck and sorry bout the confusion. I was always under the impression that permanents din't leave or enter play simultaniously while this is untrue. It's the triggers that you can stack how you choose. Before a combo like this this misconception was never an issue.
Anyway, you might be better of running this deck instead of zoo faterall if you feel comfortable with it. From the research I did it actually seems to be one of the better decks.
