at least Inkfathom can be cast no matter what lands you have out by turn 2, which is very helpful. The dimir is more useful as a blocker, which defeats his purpose of being unblockable. I might replace him with a couple Triton Shorestalkers

the Infiltrators never have turned me on all that much, so I cut them back to add some creatures that I feel have better value. I love, love, LOVE Invisible Stalker, hexproof is worth its weight in gold in the games I play, so it got upped to 4. AEther Figment I feel is a good replacement for the Inkfathom Infiltrator, since it can actually block, but also you can boost it if you draw/play it in later turns if you don't have anything else to spend the mana on.

I played around with this deck for a bit and thought it could use a one-drop as well. I like Tormented Soul; unblockable for B. Otherwise my go-to one-drop for anything black would be Will-o-the-Wisp, although it doesn't fit the unblockable theme.

my slightly tweaked version: http://www.mtgvault.com/lyanheart/decks/black-blue-bastards/
Still trying to decide which cards I like best and will adjust numbers from there.

I've also been working on an unblockable/hard-to-block deck with blue and black, but never thought to combine it with Cipher (since I only recently even learned of Cipher). Another one for me to play around with. Thanks!

I love tribal decks. You're making to many of them for me to keep up with!! :-D
I might play around with some zombies now. Looks like a good base to mix some more Devotion in to as well.

Here's what I put together. Dirt cheap and plays fast.

I've tried a couple of the Genesis Hydras in this deck in an earlier version, but never seemed to get much value out of it. Not to say it isn't worth a few more tries, though. It is pretty sweet to play it for 7, using the 5X to drop the Kalonian along with it, plus the extra drop can't be countered. I might have to keep the two I have in the box to swap in and out and see what happens.

The World Eater is a pretty wicked looking card, too, even just the 5/5 for 4. However, stacking up counters is the big trick I like to play with this deck and the double-X cost for his monstrosity just doesn't thrill me. Even trying to use it as a weenie-roaster wouldn't work out the best, since you'd be paying a minimum of 5 to even kill just 2 tiny enemies. It would make a great 4-drop after the Krasis, though. I also don't like its $$$ cost at the moment... way overpriced if you ask me. For a buck each I'd try a couple, but right now I don't think it would outplay anything that it would replace.

Actually, I've had the account for YEARS, just never commented. Only recently got back in to the game, though, and started playing around here. I started magic during 4th edition and actively played up to Ravnica, and then started collecting again around M14/Theros.

So far I've found your budget decks to be excellent to get my friends playing again, who otherwise wouldn't want to spend a dime to build a fun deck.

Yes, that was my thoughts too when looking for different spells to include and keep it Standard. I am just going to play around with different enhancing spells and land grabs and see what feels best. It's fun to play either way.

I've been wanting to do a new Slivers deck on the cheap... looks like I've found my inspiration. Love your stuff, NW!

Love the minotaurs. Inspires me to do something similar with the pile I have of the horned buggers.

I have thought about that, but I know the second I cut them back I'm going to really want to trample and won't be holding any! I've also been thinking about what other spells would be most helpful; I'd like to cut back to only 2x Aspect of Hydra (they get big enough on their own) and get rid of Nissa's Expedition entirely. I stuck them in, replacing 2 forests, after getting a couple in my M15 packs but so far they have not made any significant difference. Mana production has been working smoothly, so there are 4 slots to fill, maybe 5 or 6 if I cut a couple Nylea's.
