Hmm idk if I would go for a playset of cryptic's but I do agree mana leak is sort of a love/ hate card and negate I have on the side but def could see an argument to have at least one mainboard, have you tried the Gideon of the trial at all?

Think it's a decent start, I made a mono black devotion deck myself that's turned out to play better than I expected can check my profile if you wanna check it out, some suggestions put duress in the SB and put thoughtseize tho I can understand if it's due to budget cards like geralfs messenger and relentless dead add to your devotion and go well with something like nykthos shrine to nyx which would also make something like gray merchant of asphodel a win condition
