Thanks to knightofthehokeypokey, Kazzong and magicmaster13 this deck went from good to awesome!

Not your typical zombie deck.....
Turn one gravecrawler and opponents think it's another run of the mill zombie deck... Not so fast! Go ahead and put half your library in your graveyard, give me countless tokens and surrender or my undead army will eat you and your babies!!

Deck discussion for bruised not beat

This deck is awesome. Add in gravecrawler or tenacious dead for diregraf ghoul, and watch your opponent tremble.

Good call! I need to order one more.

This deserves hot page status, if only for Undead Alchemist shenanagins. I'll make some calls. Oh, and you might want several ways to sac Undead Alchemist when you no longer need him.

Yeah all I got right now is bone splinters. I usually win by decking or lich lords second ability. Definitely definitely open for suggestions on ways to sac him. Right now I side in suffer the past to help with finishing off the opponent.

Well ... Grave pact is epic in a zombie deck. Altar's Reap might serve to sac him.

Got it in the sideboard for now. In sure I'll use it now than not though. Thanks

personally, my favorite sac engine is viscera seer. even though it isn't a zombie, it might do well here. :)

2

Definitely could work here.

The funny thing is that the first time I saw it my reaction was "that is such an awful card. who on earth would use such a piece of junk." turns out that I would :) and I will keep looking for more zombie oriented sac cards as well. :)

Thanks! Never thought of it for zombies. I've only really seen it used with blood artist.

great deck, possibly go for the throat instead of doom blade?

2
Posted 13 May 2014 at 06:08

Yep go for the throat is better. Thanks

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 06:15

have you also thought about adding a sac engine? since you'll be getting so many 2/2's you may as well sacrifice them for a greater cause.

I've thought about it but I haven't found anything that's better than lich lords second ability. Right now other than decking someone lich lord is the main win con. His ability held get even more tokens from undead too.

some possible ideas: Corpse Traders; Disciple of Griselbrand; Eater of Hope; Gnawing Zombie; Grimgrin, Corpse-Born; Gutless Ghoul; Mind Slash; Nantuko Husk; Nezumi Bone-Reader; Phyrexian Plaguelord; Plagued Rusalka; Thoughtpicker Witch; Undercity Informer.

1

I like undercity informer but I don't think he fits in very well. I'll look into the others though. Thanks for the suggestions.

Mainly because I'm trying to get away from having too many 3 drops. I seem to have too many when I play, it doesn't matter if I get rooftop storm out but that's not until turn six

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:06

I'm torn between viscera seer and disciple of griselbrand at the moment.... Might require a few games to test it out.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:17

ok, rooftop storm is an amazing card. amazingly deceptive at how poorly it actually works. :( I had it in my zombie deck for a while, but I could never seem to get it out fast enough to really be of any use. it is too expensive at 6 mana to be really powerful. if it reduced cost by 1-3 and was only 3-4 mana it would be a much better card I think.

in short, I would say to drop it because of its CMC. just too high to be useful in this deck.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:21

Yeah I've noticed that too, it's main use became pulling my zombies out of the graveyard with havengul lich using just one mana instead of paying the one for the ability then the cmc of whichever zombie I'm pulling out. I've thought about just running ghoulcallers chant instead

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:30

you should still probably remove one, so that there is very little chance of drawing into more than one per game.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:41

I put it in the sideboard for now until I can play without it and see how much changes.

1

Thoughts on liliana's reaver over havengul lich or siren of the silent song anyone???

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:50

i would say remove siren for reaver

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:54

That's kind of what I was thinking. It'll help with the curve making sure I have something for every turn.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 07:56

just wondering, is this deck following any budget?

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 08:02

Ok, so I'm thinking side havengul add grave pact for more board control with disciple of griselbrand.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 08:03

No budget, I have all the cards that are listed now that I removed one gravecrawler..... Well I only have 2 viscera seers unless I have more that I haven't put in my uncommon/rare binder yet.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 08:08

The only restriction is keeping it modern. We have a couple shops here that have weekly modern games and this is the deck I use.

1

wow so you sure do have an abundant collection of mtg cards.

0

another idea: -1 memory sluice, +1 disciple or go for the throat

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 08:15

Yeah I've played for 14 years now and collected a LOT of cards in that time frame. My brother played even longer then when he passed away I inherited even more cards. It never fails though it's the card I really need that I have only one of usually. That's where trading comes in handy.

0

I only have 3 disciples but I could get one more. I think they're only like 25ยข.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 08:25

yeah they're not expensive

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 08:41

What do you think about -1 negate instead of memory sluice? Memory Sluice usually gives me a good amount of token zombies for 1mana.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 08:45

how would that give you tokens?

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 09:12

Undead alchemist's second ability works anytime a creature is put into opponents graveyard from the library. I usually get at least two when I play memory sluice.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 09:26

Unless I have multiple undead out..... Then I get lots of tokens.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 09:37

oh right... i don't know why but i was thinking that the ability was targeting your own library..

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 10:06

That would be awesome! It would have to be a G/B card though. Come on wizards! Make a golgari version! Please!!!

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 10:11

you can target your own library with memory sluice...

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 11:44

My vote is Glimpse the Unthinkable. However, that cost so much that you might want to use tomb scour.

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 13:59

I meant a Golgari version of undead alchemist. I just like memory sluice because it's conspire cost is easy to pay in this deck and it's top 8. I could run a couple of both though.

0

Oh right yeah that'd be awesome

Ohhh man! You got me all excited then I saw its from tempest and isn't legal in modern. Such a good card though, wish they would've reprinted it.

1

Oh... I didn't know you wanted modern legal... :(. My bad. I shall try again.

1

wow that card would have been perfect

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 09:13

Good suggestion, I might try to trade for one or two to use in casual play.

1
Posted 13 May 2014 at 09:15

Alright, 2 suggestions:
Lake of the Dead
Endless Ranks of the Dead

I don't know about sac outlets, but I'll keep looking.

0

Sadly there are not too many good zombie sac engines. :(. Plenty for vampires, but zombies are woefully lacking.

0
Posted 13 May 2014 at 14:31

Lake of the dead isn't modern legal but I will try to find a spot for endless ranks, it makes more sense with the changes that have been made.

Yeah I think I like disciple of griselbrand and viscera seer as the sac engine. I'll have to play a few games with each and maybe even try running both to compare effectiveness.

zombie mill deck? whats not to love? Its not a zombie but a jace, memory adept could help finish off the mill

2

Thanks, I got him in the SB until I can test it out.

0

Well, Jace could finish off any mill =).

0
Posted 15 May 2014 at 06:02

Um ... just a side note, but that mana curve looks awfully high. Liliana's Reaver and Grave Pact are good, but they aren't the mill focus of this deck so...

1
Posted 15 May 2014 at 06:03

Yeah I figured the reaver gave me a second option for tokens in case I can't draw undead alchemist and grave pact helps clear the board if I need to start sacing zombies. I wish there was a zombie version of goblin matron or goblin recruiter.....

Lifebane at worst is excellent SB material!!!
