Deck Description

====================================================================
THE DRAFT
====================================================================

Every pack I opened had a horrible rare.

The first pack had the 7/2 plant creature (Phytotitan) - which is such a slow and horrible card. I passed on him and drafted "Geist of the Moors".

The second pack had the most expensive tutor ever (Chord of Calling). Wanting three green made me pass on it instantly since I hadn't drafted a single green card. Even with convoke - I'm not sure I would run that card in a mono-green deck. Maybe if I drafted a saproling deck... Something that crapped out little green creatures... Maybe.

The third pack had Shivan Reef as the rare. Welkin Tern was my only blue card I was forced (earlier) to draft a Mountain as my only red card.

I just wasn't meant to have rares.

THE MATCHES
====================================================================

Match 1
(Dan) W/G/U Removal: 2-0

Match 2
(Jarred) W/G Weenie Combo: 2-0

Match 3
(Brandon) W/R/U Aggro: 2-0

Match 4
(Alex) R/U Control: 2-1

Match 5 (Finals)
(Jarred) W/G Weenie Combo: 1-2

Match 1 was over quickly. My opponent admitted to being new to drafting and the deck he drafted wasn't very strong. I helped him improve the deck a little after our match by dropping one of the colors and fixing the mana count. Hopefully he did better later in the night. It's always good to see new guys joining the ranks.

Match 2 took forever to finish. My lifelink cards saved me as I slowly wore my opponent down. My deck had a few solid big hitting hombres. His deck had a swarm of little bastards. Victory was not easy.

Match 3 was over quickly. My victory felt empty. Normally this man would have handed me my ass or put up a long and grueling fight. I'll blame the curse of drafting three colors for this one.

Match 4. What would it be like to play a match against someone that drafted every counterspell that came their way? You play your cards at a normal pace thinking things will change... hoping that he'll run out of counterspells... You then lose the first game because you can't play anything. You learn from the loss and win the next two games by waiting for him to tap out before playing anything/everything.

I am reminded that I need to hunt down an old friend that is holding onto a copy of Force of Will... He no longer plays and I need a playset for my prison...

I went into Match 5 ranked first place. The match was against the same person (Jarred) I beat in Match 2 (2-0). This time - he had all the kinks worked out in his deck. It also didn't help that he had some amazing draws. The combo that did me in both times was a card that gave his other white creatures +1/+1 paired with a card that crapped out flying 1/1 spirit tokens. My final blow in the last game was at the hand of 6 flying 2/2's.
