Deck Description

A life-based deck. Not just gaining life, but making your opponent lose life. In addition to Sanguine Bond adding a burn effect, the other enchantments in this deck either add to or multiply your life total, or can be used in some way to slow your opponent down or power up the creatures in it.
Cradle of Vitality is especially potent when several Lifelinkers are out already, and Spirit Loop stacks with Lifelink in addition to being reusable.

Deck discussion for Midnight Sun

I like the looks of this one. I've been soured on white decks ever since I lost 15 games in a row with one, some of which were against decks made up on the spot.
And yet, if this could work, I could learn to start liking white cards again. I'll be blunt about this: Black is not strong on life gain, and even requires you to give up life at times. White is not so good at destroying obstacles, at least not without helping your opponent. But maybe the two together could make up for each other's weaknesses.

I just played my first game with this deck a couple nights ago, and even though I still need 3 more Nip Gwyllions and a Soul's Attendant, I got to over 100 life in not too long of a time. Even incomplete, this deck only lost in the end to a tournament-quality lifegain deck, which is pretty good until I remember that if I'd paid attention the time I got Diabolic Tutor and went for Sanguine Bond rather than Edge of the Divinity, I might have finished that match quickly.
Either way, I recommend this deck highly to those who know how to use it to the fullest. The last game ended with me taking over 20 damage per turn but still healing and inflicting more with just 2 creatures.

I've always liked B/W llifegain. I think it looks pretty good in what it is doing( obviously considering you have consistently get to 100+ life) but it could improve if perhaps made the cards themselves more consistent.

Thank you for the feedback (and so quickly too!) I get that advice with a lot of my decks, so I am definitely going to take it to heart this time. Your input is very much appreciated.

Try out felidar sovreign, it is a tough six mana creature with lifelink, and if you have it and 40 or more life during your upkeep, you win the game!

Also, celestial mantle is a really great enchantment that could repeatedly doubble your life points! Ajani goldmane himself can give you a avatar with power and toughness equal to your life.

Thanks. I'll put in the Celestial Mantle right now, and I ought to be able to find a Felidar Sovreign in a few weeks. Finally, my first draft of this deck is almost completely within my reach. It's been pretty quick considering I just learned about this game in mid-November.

WOW you learned mtg in november and your deck is this good!! thts amazing!!! :) this deck idea was also pretty creative......dont get me wrong there are tons of life gain decks out their but the cards you chose are for the most part pretty inovative :) yo, do you think you could help me out with my decks, especially my infect deck. I have some prety awesome cards but they dont seem to mesh if you could suggest some cards tht would give them good combos then tht would be great!!

I'm not too familiar with Infect cards, so I may not be able to find much, if anything, that helps, but I'll try and come up with something at least. I'll probably learn a few things myself from looking it over.

My deck lost again- but that's fine, since it was going against the Life Eternal deck again. However, despite the gap in efficience between a one-color deck like that and a two-color deck like this one, I now win roughly 1 in 4 matches we have. Not bad for an amateur's incomplete deck, I suppose, but I still think I could use some improvement.

You have a variety of fantastic cards here - and obviously it is effective according to your comments. My only suggestions would be to use the cards that are the most effective and focus your strategy more. You have 25 different cards, not counting lands, so your draw will be fairly random. If you like the excitement of not knowing - awesome! - but it will affect your win ratio.
If it were my deck, I would grab a full 4 Ajani's Pridemate, Souls of the Faultless, Serra Ascendant and Vampire Nighthawk just because they are so darn effective and efficient. Id drop the Null Champion and likely the Mourning Thrull as well.
In regards to your enchantments, Id grab at least one more Sanguine Bond (or more) and drop nice side cards like Painful Quandry (thanks for your advice on that one in my deck btw!).
Again, I not sure what has been working for you. Keep those cards in and throw the rest into the sideboard.

Just food for thought....

All right then. I'll see which of the changes I can afford to make. Right now I'm only listing the cards I own in my deck, but I'll have a few more Serra Ascendant in a couple weeks, plus more Ajani's Pridemates when I can find them. The Null Champion really is something of a placeholder, so adding another Vampire Nighthawk or two should fit right in with my deck's plan once I locate more of those too. Thank you for the input, and looking at my deck I have to think that following your advice ought to make it stronger. And more consistent, which is a problem I've been having lately.

im not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, (there were too many comments, so i didnt read all of them) but tainted sigil might go really well in this deck. its another white/black card in the theme of life gain/drain

Thanks for the tip. Tainted Sigil could go really well in this deck, but since I'm not sure how effectively I'd be able to use it with my strategy yet, I'll put it in my sideboard and give some thought to what it would add and what if anything I'd have to do differently in matches to get the most out of it.

I like this deck a lot. I like the variety, plus there are cards that I've never seen (deathbringer liege). I have a black/white life deck myself that I would love to hear your thoughts on. I'm new to the sight, so I was wondering how you get so much traffic looking at your deck. Are you discussing in forums?

I was wondering pretty much the same thing myself, actually. This was my first successful serious attempt to make a working deck, and it's been around for, I think, a month or two. Personally, I feel that much of the traffic came from Shadowshun's "deck" called "!ATTENTIONEVERYONE!" I posted this there and got more suggestions and comments in the next few days than I had in the past few weeks. They come up with some really good suggestions there. About taking a look at your deck; sure, why not? If I can think of anything that might help in some way, I'd be glad to let you know.

nice deck maybe armored ascension can help you put it on a lifelink creature

1

Thanks for the idea, but are you sure it would be all that strong outside of mono-white decks? That's one of the main things that has held me back from putting in Armored Ascension so far, so if I can be sure it's not going to cause problems, I'll try it.

...there must be 0 consistency to this deck.

It's coming through more consistently with each revision, and should continue to improve as I get more cards, but since my first deck was all M11 cards, I don't own enough of each card yet. As I find more cards and gain more experience in deck building, hopefully it should keep evolving. On that note, what would you suggest for improving my chances of beating an opponent who generally gets to over 100 life within seven turns? I'm still open to suggestions.

well, I'm a standard player, so all my advice would be standard.
but also as a standard player, i think lifegain decks are fairly weak now, in the sense that they try to stall for too long, and then find it difficult to hold the board.

1

Then you haven't witnessed the sheer power of my lifegain deck. I must say that Anonymoose is a significantly better player than me, I just find myself getting luck y with the deck I've built.

Regardless of format, a bunch of singles means no consistency.
I'm not arguing that this deck can't hit 100 life, because it's very possible.
but can this deck hit 100 life the same way each time? probably not.
my only advice is to single out your best cards, and get multiple copies of them. it adds more consistency. sure, variety is good, but variety in the random sense is more or less... winging it.

1

Right, as it happens. The lack of consistency is the deck's main weakness, and the main obstacle to this deck's completion is my relative difficulty in getting to a store to buy any cards at all. Building a stable deck takes time, and until I finally am able to get enough of each card, this deck is going to be more random than I'd like.

Very nice. :D

Some cards you might consider:
- Souls of the Faultless
- Agent of Masks
- Tainted Sigil
- Divinity of Pride
- Corrupt

I might put Agent of Masks in, if I find one, and the others are also pretty good suggestions, though I'm saving my Corrupt for a different deck. Thanks for your input, though.

I run a similar deck, and the only thing I would suggest otherwise are boon reflections. But, and I know you don't need to hear it again haha, but work on that consistency. If for nothing else, the sanguine bonds.

Right. Once I finally get enough of every card together and am able to test out what I believe should be a more reliable form of this deck, I'll post the revised version on this site. I'll probably end up posting it as "Midnight Sun: Rising". But in the meantime, I still have to go and seek out more of each card I'll need.

Hello, me again. I dont know what your mana curve plays like at the moment, but invincible hymn can give you alot of life very quickly (although you need to get it out as soon as you can to benefit fully.

P.S. Thanks for your comments on my decks, i have added omnath to the eldrazi - ramp!

ANNOUNCEMENT: Midnight Sun has changed- a lot. It turned into two decks; a W/U/B control/power-attacking deck and a G/B Infect horror show, both of which do really well. I think that now would be a good time to start rebuilding this deck from the maybe 90% of it I left behind in the process, and add things like Elesh Norn, Geth's Verdict, and some proper control and lifegain. Maybe make it a W/U deck insstead, and go for the total nasty control of a Dovescape/Godhead of Awe/Elesh Norn combo, turning all opponents' spells into a bunch of dead birds, and making even Emrakul -1/-1.
Thoughts, anyone?

I'm considering rebuilding this. I just need to get back my Serra Ascendants, and I'll try making it a lifegain/control deck. What else could I do with Norn's Annex, Elesh Norn, and all those other neat little Phyrexian cards? Suture Priest could be nice.

My rebuild of this deck will probably be called something like Dawn of Despair or something similarly overdramatic. Also, anyone reading this, expect me to post a deck with the capacity to do at least ten trillion (yes, that's 10,000,000,000,000) damage by turn four. I even have a name picked for it as well: Crimson Sky.
