This deck was a tourney legal deck back in Onslaught block and it did rather well in Onslaught block and during the transition into Mirrodin. I started using it after I got bored with my zombie deck. I worked well in those creature saturated blocks.
The combos were rather simple Beacon of Destiny > Battlefield Medic. Attack with Vile Deacon and then sacrifice it to Starlit Sanctum for tons of damage. The same could be said for Doubtless One. The horrifying combo back then was using Lightning Greaves and equipping it for free to any one cleric back and forth between another while Daru Spiritualist was in play. Then the cleric that was equipped any number of times had his toughness go up +0/+2 that number of times and then you sacrificed it to Starlit Sanctum gaining you any amount of life you wanted. In a Cleric deck Misery Charm was very versatile and on it own one black mana for a loss of 2 life is not too bad. Glarecaster was very good at dealing with burn decks.
