Deck Description

I've been beginning to really getting into deck building and was hoping for some input on how to make this a more efficient milling deck, please keep the cards in a reasonable price range.

How to Play

Put out hedron early in game for effective milling late game, use removals and hand discards to stall early game. Put out walls also for stalling. Late game bring out Jace and use his 0 and +1 ability depending on situation use -7 as a finisher if not milled out by then.

If you want something more offensive, consider Merfolk, particularly Grimoire Thief. She's a lot of fun.

I would suggest not using Perplex. Yes, it may seem like a great thing, but when you really need to stop that game-winning spell from resolving, I hardly think the opponent would care about discarding the rest of their hand to win the game, especially when they've already lost cards due to your Hymn to Tourach and the like.

I actually ran into that situation with Perplex, do you have any suggestion to what sorcery/instant could replace it? btw really love Grimoire Thief who should i replace her for?

I would suggest just a regular Mana Leak for the counterspell. If you want to go really fancy, consider a remand, but they are crazy expensive. That could go well with you discard mechanic, too. My personal favorite counterspell is rune snag.

As for the Grimoire Thief, I would say removing a land and one or two diabolic edicts. You have a lot of removal spells, but that's just me. Maybe you need it. The Hover Barriers seem strange, too. Maybe Fog Bank, instead?

Here's an example of a good use of Grimoire Thief. I just made the deck out of sudden inspiration I had. I have no clue how well it will do, as, again, it's fresh. Plus, it is kinda sorta cheap. http://www.mtgvault.com/alackofreason/decks/tap-dat/

And why no archive traps? You theoretically, basically win the game on your first turn with all four in your hand.

This is half helpful...because I am not experienced with making mill decks...but the card Consuming Aberration seems super slow in this deck.

It is a really good card...just feels slow. Something like Mind Sculpt...maybe. 7 cards for 2 mana.
For the same price as Consuming Aberration, (1 mana less) you get to make your opponent discard 14 cards.

A little more expensive is Mind Funeral. It is also a good choice for this deck. For three mana (again, quicker and cheaper with mana compared to Consuming Aberration) you get to potentially make them mill a lot of cards.

And not really loving the discard cards in this deck. Only because you have so little of them. Would recommend taking them out, and adding more Counterspells or Creature Destruction. Or, instead of taking them out, run 4 copies of them.

Overall, deck looks good.

You have to decide if you want to play mill, or U/B control, or something else. But mixing those strategys won't do you good.

If you want to continue with mill, I'm missing some of the best millspells there are in U/B:
Dream Twist, Breaking // Entering, Glimpse the Unthinkable, Mind Funeral, Mind Sculpt
Noxious Revival/ Snapcaster Mage
Surgical Extraction

Definitely need Glimpse the unthinkable in this deck.

hm... perhaps to go along with the mill, you could swap perplex with psychic strike. same mana cost, but mills for 2 cards, and no opt out for your opponent. although it doesn't have the transmute... :(

ok, one other thing that I see here: as cool as Traumatize looks/sounds, it is not all that great of a card. if you think about it, the mana that it takes to play it, and how many turns it takes to get that mana out, it becomes less useful each time you play a card. you could have half of their deck gone by turn 4-5 or so, and your traumatize only gets you 10-15 cards... maybe. (not to mention all of the cards that they are drawing as well.) I think that it would be more effective to run something like glimpse the unthinkable or mind sculpt instead.

and for my own curiosity is despise really all that effective here either? it seems to me just to be here to get rid of creatures, because you can get rid of anything else with duress. I know it is a bit more mana wise, but I think that distress is better, or of course, thoughtsieze. but that is just my opinion.
