by awake on 26 December 2011

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Instants (11)

Artifacts (4)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Burn the Impure in sideboard for infect decks, Combust for blue/white decks, Rootbound there for the flashback cost of Ancient Grudge.

Manabards with mindcrank to tamper with the opponents library - yes manabards damages me as well, but coupled with burn spells - its the opponent who should suffer more.

Lightning Bolt. And if you want any creatures take a look at Vent Sentinel, Rage Nimbus, and Prodigal Pyromancer.

Yeah looked at lightning bolt. M11 isn't listed as available in standard though? Or am I wrong? Will redo include it if it's usable!

Edited slighlty - included Glimmerposts instead of copperline gorge, dropped 1 ancient grudge added 1 more incinerate and put Pristine Talisman in to combat the life loss from manabarbs. Also added combust & Arc Trail to the sideboard, although may swap Arc Trail in for the reverberates...

I honestly think mindcrank is just a waste of card slots here. You dont need to kill someone and mill them out to win, by trying to do both at once you are just splitting your resources.

Also I dont really see milling someone as necessarily being bad for them. Unless you actually mill them out it doesnt get you anywhere. You are just as likely to mill them into what they need as you are to get rid of it.

And then with all of the flashback available in the current standard meta you are basically moving cards from somewhere they cant easily use them yet (the library), to somewhere they are only one snapcaster away.

If you want to stick with a mostly spell based burn I would suggest a U/R design with burn, draw power, and some counter magic. Mono-red burn like this has a tendency to run out of cards and then die while top-decking.

Or if you want to stick with mono-red you can check out some of the different RDW aggro decks.

Interesting points - mindcrank isnt really there as a 'mill' win its more of an irritating disruption - disgarding from your library everytime you tap a mana thanks to manabarbs is likely to mill them more into disruption than a card they need. As you say though with the increased flashback in play now and graveyard play it could play into someones hands, but against these decks you sideboard in Arc Trail instead.

there are a few standard decks out there right now that would be happy that you use mindcrank... they are running graveyard recusion and trying to up the creature or card count of their graveyard. I do like the plan with manabarbs but splashing white for personal santuary seems like alot better use of 4 slots than mindcrank.

Personal Sanctuary... never even thought of it - really good suggestion thanks :) will add a splash of white and replace mindcrank and see how it fares.
Agree that mindcrank does appear to be useful to some opponents' decks now...

I like the idea a lot, but i think that this kind of burn deck need some drawing power, if you dont use your options well, or the opponent has a lot of creatures, you will spend all the burn into killing creatures and you will have very few cards in hand, of course, if you cant beat them before the opponent creature deal really heavy damage. I would suggest Browbeat but its not standard. You could use flashback spells like the upcomming Increasing Vengeance too.
