Standard - Instant Infect - I ..

by Beavis on 13 November 2010

Main Deck (66 cards)

Sideboard (4 cards)

Creatures (4)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

With good draw you win in turn 4.

Groundswell/Vines of Vastwood + Distortion Strike to get 10+ unblockable/shroud infect for 3-5 mana.

Livewire Lash, nice addition. Any instant your opponent plays or yourself (the whole idea of it) will trigger 2 poison counters on your opponents face. (this makes you lol at 4 mana prolifirate if you can give boost + 6 direct infect in same time for 3 mana)

Play Carrion Call in your opponents turn before the end. He will not expect this and is mostly tapped out. The next turn your 2 infect creatures will lose summon sickness and are ready to attack.

Any suggestions are welcome ;)

prevent damage spells??? if this combo is countered, then you will be left wide open after buffing this one creature if played early on. mana accelerators eg: journey of discovery is my personal favorite, this will let you play this combo even sooner. :)

This is a Standard format deck. So for mana accel you're a bit limited in options. Something like Explore or Everflowing Chalice if mana speed was an issue for this deck. Which I don't really think it is.

More than anything I think you need to build a sideboard. It would be good to have a few more (4) creatures and probably give up Sleep (it's cool but a SB card really). Blight Mamba's a good one since it's durable. Another good idea for some splash blue would be Mana Leak so you have a bit of counter action.

With your mana curve after that change you could definitely remove 2 fetch land and I would recommend (if you have them or can afford them) Misty Rainforest for 4 of the 6 you have left (-1 life isn't a big deal with the speed you should be pulling).

Another use you may get out of blue would be card draw of some sort or card draw/scry. Steady Progress would suit theme. Tel-Jilad Defiance would be pretty solid in standard as well (even if it's SB). That being said, for pure card draw Preordain is hard to beat.

Happy deck building.

As for mana its really not an issue. Almost everything I play will be 2 mana at most with the exception on Corpse Cur. The finisher only takes 3 mana + land to instant kill opponent.
Sleep/Tangle Angler are the extra cards for "just in case" to either destroy some of his 1/1 utility creatures or to tap everything incase I don't draw enough instants.

Before I actually had 4x Mamba but changed it for the Livewire Lash.
Than I also changed the 4x Giant Growth for 4x Carrion Call (so I get 8 infect creaters back+ suprise summon).

Side deck is indeed needed. I'll add mamba to it since its also 2 mana.

Misty Rainforest is indeed good suggestion. Thanks

Check out Distortion Strike. Use it on a creature and it's basically unblock able for 2 turns. Check my deck out: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=109504

I've also found that tangle angler usually doesn't work very well. Takes a lot to summon when you'd want to use your mana to either buff or send more infection creatures out.

Yea I hardly ever use it. Only thing I find handy is to use it as blocker to take atleast the small hits from 1-3 damage creatures. I could use something else that also targets my own creatures (like buff/prevent damage/flying) that combo's with livewire lash. However if I remove to much infect creatures I risk drawing them to little.

Btw it's smarter to use the Carrion Call in the 2nd round. Becose once he got beaten by a 1/1 necropede he will use all his removals on any single infect you have. Once the opponent thinks it's save to summon his own creatures and use all his mana. Than use Carrion Call when he's tapped out before he finished his turn. This gives you 2 infect creatures without summon sicknes that you can buff till 10 and make them unblockable.

Did putrefax or Hand of the praetors work out for you?
Did you try this deck out yet? How did it turn out? If you going green I suggest Birds of Paradise for speed.

My experience wasn't that good yet for some reason. On paper it seems nice, but sometimes I just draw constant instants/sorc and missing the creatures or the other way around.
The first couple times I played I won a couple games, but now I just lost every match.
After some time the players just know the tactic (from telling around or watching) and they just burn every single infect I play stalling my game until they can play their bombs around turn 4-6.

If the person is new and have no idea what I'm playing it increases the changes alot. Becose people don't see danger in 1/1 necropede to use their removals and safe it. If not you will have problems with a to slow infect (summon sickness).

I'm planning to just make a new one starting with black/blue or black/green as basis with few bombs in it and more removal. But still using the pumping effect.

I think I give up on infect for now. It seems interesting but not yet for tournaments. Unless someone else could recommend me a real good deck.
