He was fairly good when I had him in my standard deck but he can only bring back basic lands... but I also had Mina and den in the deck to also pick up lands to chuck them at a player.

I was leaning more to a control build hence the colorless removal, but after testing you probably are right about the bigger better threats! Thanks for the feed back.

I am currently testing this design on mtgo, I like the consistency of mono black, but I am willing to change it up as I go.
I made some changes to the deck, if I had some more bloodghasts I would put them in.
