Deck Description

Looking to kill Caw-Go and MBC will being able to survive the meta

Baneslayers are a 5/5 taht stop those dang birds and that sword of feast and famine ( they are 3/3s with that equipped). Leyline for keeping control as well and a bunch of counterspells.

Elspeth makes blockers or kills those dang equipment with her ultimate.

Techs and speading seas for valacut (or however you spell it, annoying deck)

Lightcasters and purge for MBC or tezz decks (nothing like exiling a tezzerat then killing off a 5/5 thopter with a ratchet bomb.

Dispel for the couter war

finishers are:
venser fully pumped up (happens more than you think)
Baneslayers (they hurt alot and get you back health instead of that lifestaff)
Gideon (he is just a beast)
Jace (happens more than you think)

Everything else just controls teh field and gets me advantage

cantrips everywhere in this deck is the reason I don't run 28 lands like the other control decks.

Man those plainswalkers are ASS! I would hate to see you getting a few of those guys going at the same time, I would not know what the hell to do. Its a cool deck I dont have any suggestions if you own those three Jace's then color me jealous.

Controls bad, everyone plays, instead of finding THE way to beat it. I hate it. (Blue Control, mixed with any colors, hate it. I like MBC and White control. Red is cool too, but annoying as hell.)

Actually, 2nd place was Boros, but whatever.

I do hate control. And I'll never make it there. Don't have the money, only have money for cards.

i like the caw go deck ideas, lol. they seem fun.

but if theres so much control, did you ever think about luminarch ascension?
i think they'd do you way more than leyline.

yea luminarch is a beast card in control decks:p

ethan you're good with control!
would you mind checking out my newest B/W control and giving your opinion on what can be improved?

thanks man, and yeah I'll take a look (:

0

the only thing i would improve is the mana curve. you've got a good amount of counter spells, but i'd maybe take out deprive in favor of some chumpy creatures. I've had a lot of success with Lone Missionary, others prefer squadron hawk, and no shit, but making room for mimic vat is always good. at the very least, it draws out the lurking counter spell. i like it ...+1

NO bad but i would put in some luminarch acsion (Spelled wrong)

I was thinking about adding that to the sideboard for mirror matches or against MBC but not main deck..seems like a dead draw till I know what i'm up against

I was thinking about adding wall of omen for a +1. idk. what do you think. i'll sleep on mimic vat lol. if I am going against a mirror match seems like another dead draw

was playing magic online with it and forced a tezz control deck to go offensive and make mistakes to prevent the lumi going off and won thanks to forcing them to play and i get to counterspell. it was awesome

if our decks ever faced off it would be a long, good match lol

0

yours and mine?

and to the comment above, luminarch is so beastly. i really think it should be main decked.
you're controlling the board, like you said, and drop it turn 2, it should go off fairly quick.

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 20:42

the only thing i don't like about acension on turn two is that is a mana leak. i would only drop it against control when i know i won't see a creature for 5-6 turns. otherwise i would rather deprive or mana leak. that is why it is sidedecked. its a situational drop.

0

makes sense.

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 20:49

the only big problem in a control v control match is a couple of things
A: who can win the counter war
B: who has more land
C: who has the faster win condition

tech edges help with mana for me
counters can be situational
and lumi can help me with the fast win against control

i used to run a fairly solid u/b control deck.
but it got raped by boros and goblins in standard. :P

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 20:53

u/b is not as strong anymore. black red control would stop aggro with the board wipes so would blue white with the mass removal

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 20:56

i miss u/b, lol. they made for good games.

but you say a main goal to beat with this deck is caw-go and mbc, do you really think mbc will be a top tier deck?
and if so, how do you feel my deck will be able to match up with the other MBCs?

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 20:58

MBC with its spot removal, its discard ( i've been playing since unlimited and played the black summer of magic and made one of the first status decks lol) that is the only way to beat counterspell decks. make you discard, couterspell, ok i got rid of one lets go again lol. Also with the zenith it has teh only answer to monument decks, also with the titan and the Memoricide to kill any deck period i.e. get rid of win conditions. It is tier one no doubt about it lol

0

never really thought about it that way, lol. nice. (:

but again, how do you feel mine can stand up to that reputation?
you seem to know your stuff, and as a magic player I want to do the best i can to win my local fnm ;P

0

if you play right..and think long and treat it like a game of chess and not over extend, you should be fine. Also, think about what creature you are gonna kill before you do it. need to eval your damage and think about how much more you want to take before doing removal. if you think long and hard and always be prepared for the mana leak ( keep an extra 3 open before playing a game ender) you should place first no problem. only real issue I see with you is valakut. only got 2 tech edges and Sadistic Sacrament you have to hope for real real early. i can see you topping your FNM no issue

0

the trick is and this is important..never ever over extend

0

thanks man, im glad somebody out there has confidence in me, lol.

but i gotta say, the guys I play with seem to be masters of the sort.
im scared of some of the decks they run, but with your suggestions, i think this new deck I have going can really take the cake.

thanks a lot, man. (:

but what do you mean by over extend?

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 21:15

how do I explain this...uhhh...it took me 7 years to learn how not to do this.

ok, first thing is to never ever empty your hand, but don't be afraid to play a spell. Know when to play removal and when not to. you have to evaluate every situation and know when to play and when to hold back. always prepare for the couterspell and know every deck type out there and know when to sideboard and already know what to take out and what to keep in no matter what. the biggest thing is to think before you act and take your time. It just takes time and patience after a game never be afraid to ask for any advice from people around on what you could of done. also playtest, alot of it

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 21:27

ahhhh, I see.
I've only been playing since summer, lol. so i guess I'm still relatively new to the game.

but I know to never empty my hand, lol. and sideboarding i usually dont have a problem with.

but once again, thanks for the advice. (:

It's ok but the main deck is planewalkers and non creature spells :[

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 20:44

in other words, to over extend is to make sure what is in your hand is the perfect time to play it and not rush it

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 21:28

you also need to know the own strength of your deck and how to handle it. confidence

Way too many PW for one deck. Stick with just Elspeth or Venser, they suit the playstyle more.

0
Posted 22 February 2011 at 22:55

Ok, Elspeth is Terrible! Drop her and run another Jace. I also think you are too heavy on conditional removal, late game your counters get much much worse. I would suggest Wurmcoil over BSA. Wurmcoil is much harder to kill. I think Wall of Omens is a better cantrip than Sea Gate because he withstands a bolt and comes down a turn earlier. Deprive is interesting, but I fear you will too often not have the island. The Leyline is just plain bad, a waste of mana and space. I would throw in either 2 lands or counterspells.

MCB is dead, and doesn't look like it will make a comeback. UB is just better, and few people are playing that now despite Tarpits, BSZ, and Duress.

What testing have you done with this?

0

i have a deck super similar to this especially planeswalker wise and elspeth is far from terrible!

but i agree with you one the issues of sea gate oracle vs wall of omens and on taking out the leylines

Elspeth has saved my life a ton of times lol and she has a great board wipe. i am really thinkinga bout adding fuel for teh cause to the deck for teh polif lol

check out the new deck last night i got inspired by someoen trying to play a tezz aggro deck and saw so much more potential for a control deck built around him lol

Elspeth, in control? Really? How exactly does she help you? If you are tapping out T5 you need to be playing a very good card. What matchups does she help with? Caw Blade ignores her, Control doesn't care, Valakut doesn't care...

She seems to simply be a win more card. In a tight game, would you rather draw Gideon or Elspeth? Or even Venser?

i know what your saying mate, and you're right she doesnt seem that good against anything until you actually play with her! she is beastly, nuff said

0

personally, I hate elspeth.
"she's good for board wipe".
what good board whipe costs 5 mana and takes 2 turns to get there?
she'll give you 3 1/1 tokens, again, for 5 mana? who cares.
i think she's good in certain decks, but not necessarily in control.
