I cannot disagree with your assessment, what I was finding at the time was allot of midrange decks were being played, Ashiok is a really good early threat that they have to try and deal with, Turn 3 Ashiok against Against RG monsters is actually really strong. So the reason he is there is for a better game 1 win chanceIf I was in the aggro matchup Ashiok was the first card to go, that and the counter spells, Thunes and blood barons in and likely devour flesh depending on what they had shown me in game one

Cry Mostly, to be honest i have been testing this deck allot recently and in the current Meta it falls over to so many things, not have a proper board wipe is a big issue
