Deck Description

Life Gain while massing in flying tokens. This deck is Modern but it will never be Standard, sadly. I know there are new standard angels that i could have in here but it will never put out creatures this fast. Prepare for Angelic Beat Face

How to Play

First, attempt to get out Staff of the Sun Magus and Serra Ascendant. Get life for dropping lands and playing White spells. Get 30+ life to make Serra Ascendant a 6/6 Flyer instead of a boring 1/1
Get out the Seraph Sanctuarys, Seraph of Dawns, and Angelic Accords. This will get you life gain lifelink and angels entering the Battefield under your control. While doing that if you gained 4+ life during anyone's turn you get up to four 4/4 Angel flyers.
Then get out the rest. Use the Oblivion Rings for crippling effects from your opponent or creatures that can kill you in a turn. Having Elspeth can get you 4+ life during anyone's turn.

Deck discussion for Modern Angels

Nice job.

I have to point it out ... the mana curve is abominable. You don't have a single chump blocker or removal spell ... and you will sorely need one.

Doubling season is hilarious with token generators.

Here is a revised edition of it from the previous suggestions.

I just want to point out that most of my decks are meant to be slow and actually "PLAY" to enjoy it, not end in 3-7 turns like most decks these days. Also this is mostly on play preference

This deck looks beastly awesome.

Did some tweaks. Those Serra Avengers did nothing for this deck except have a 4th turn 2 drop which did not help one bit. This modified one works amazingly better and faster

Oh well ... they will be missed. The mana curve could use a little lowering, though .... may be Anjani's Sunstriker or something?

You like angels?! So do I!

Which angel is your favorite? Mine is Aurelia.

Akroma, Angel of Wrath!!! Only reason is because she was my first angel and then a close second was Angel of Retribution shiny

I was introduced to Aurelia in my friend's exalted deck. Yes, each ability triggers during the second combat phase and stacks. She she get 3x the number of permanents with exalt +1/+1. Plus, she is Gideon's sweetheart.

True but that wouldnt work with this deck. that would add more colorless mana and I already have 4 of that from the Sanctuaries.

The most playable angel in Modern would be Baneslayer Angel. Also, why aren't you playing Path to Exile?

Baneslayer Angel would be a nice touch but I dont have any of them. Path to exile is a quick easy get rid of creature card BUT it helps my opponent get more land than me. Also the decks that run against this one, path to exile and Baneslayer Angel would be useless against them

What would you rather your opponent have, a threat or a land? I choose land.
I do really like tribal decks al lot, I have been running a white knights deck with a little more then moderate success. Seeings how they are both mono white, maybe there is something in my decks that might tickle your fancy.
Good job on the tribal, keep it going!

Giving my opponent a land, makes them the threat

Giving land is giving a potential threat, while a turn 2 pack rat with no mana available to make a copy is a real threat. I'll take my chances with the extra land and removing the rat, or whatever the threat may be. That's just my thoughts. Good luck sir!

Hmm ... you really don't want a threat from a land, but I'm still for it. Angels are pretty slow, but remember that path to exile can nail most huge creatures, and I'd say that's way better than Reciprocate.

I have a token deck and it's ten times better than this one. I don't mean to be a buzzkill but come on, only two things put out tokens, and there's nothing in your deck that benefits from a lot of creatures on the field. This is a life gain deck, not a token deck. Also, half of what's in there, isn't even legal in standard.

Elspeth, you hit the nail on the head. There are like ... 5 or 6 cards in all of magic that can pump out those 4/4 angels. Only angelic accord is lifegain - related. If you truly want bucketloads of angel tokens ... moonsliver spear, devout invocation, angelic accord, etc. Coat of arms or door of destinies doesn't work well with a handful of 4/4 flyers ... they only truly shine when you have bucketloads of tokens. 7 1/1s with +7/+7 are far more powerful than 3 4/4s with +3/+3.

The whole idea behind most token decks is to overwhelm your opponent with bodies which are collectively ridiculous due to the blanket buffs effecting so many bodies. E.j. - Hero of Bladehold does 7 damage. 5 1/1 tokens do 5 damage. Together thry do not 12, but 17 potential damage. Add one measely honor of the pure and you're looking at 25 damage. Quantity has a quality all of it's own.

Angel decks must operate differently. Abuse the fact that your tokens are freaking awesome 4/4 flying angels. Give them enchantments and artifacts that benefit angels. Raise them from the dead. They are not faceless automons: they have feelings and dreams. :). You're not the Imperial Guard, you're the space marines!

Stick with lifegain as a secondary focus. Sunbond and Angelic Accord and Serra Ascendant really shine. Plus, you stand an excellent chance of outpacing your opponent's damage. And you want the game to run long so you can lay doen 2 angelic accords, 2 angelic skirmishers, or some such nonsense. At the very least, understand that angels are not as physically powerful as other creatures: Segnir Vampire vs. Serra Angel is an old rivalry. Lifegain is crucial to make up for the lack of pure power. That's why Angelic Skirmisher is my all-time favorite angel after Aurelia: she embodies white's game plan. She is the antithesis to Segnir Vampire; Angelic Skirmisher lays down so maby @$#! buffs, while the dark lord seeks only his own power.

Here's my angel deck: it has little bearing on tokens. However, I think that the sideboard might help. :)

WOW! Thanks Hokey Pokey for your ever long winded responses

Elspeth. This isnt meant to be a token deck. It is meant for life gain angels. Also as the name says "Modern Angels". This deck runs pretty well. It stands its own against the standard mono black deck. Then again the guy who plays it is an idiot and doesnt know how to play it

I'm sorry, i got confused. It was labeled under tokens so it confused me. But to be honest, this would make a great token deck, all you have to do is tweak it a little bit.

I agree that it can. I have done a little research and found another enchantment and will use it at some point. Luminarch Ascension. A little slow but it would be worth it in the end
