Deck discussion for Tree of Ultimate Suffering

Like the idea, but remember you don't gain life from the tree so Rhox doesn't trigger when you exchange your life total.

"Technically", it does.

On the gatherer for Rhox Faithmender it mentions if your life is set to a certain number you actually gain life to make up the difference. Since the tree sets it equal to a value equal to its toughness, you hence would gain life if your previous life total was less than the new one would be, and you would gain double the difference between the two. Though, if you instead have more life than the tree's toughness, you actually lose life, which Rhox Faithmender has nothing to do with.

Activating tree with six life and a toughness of thirteen and Rhox Faithmender would set you life total equal to twenty and the tree's toughness to six.

For a direct reading of the rule, you can check out the second ruling on Invincible Hymn.

I'm sorry to be that person, but Best of Luck to you!

Speaking of the tree of redemption shenanigans, a very powerful addition would be Vizkopa Guildmage with the lifegain/loss ability, though that would require a black mana source. It may be worth it to rework the deck as such.

Best of luck to you!

Its more of a joke deck to play with friends, but I'm kinda tempted to take it to FNM and see how it does. Also with axebanes that black mana source is available I could be cheesy and put in Galvanic Alchemist for stupid infinite mana combo instead of deadeye's for protection.
