The Dreadnought Orb

Main Deck (60 cards)

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Torpor Orb has got to be one of the most powerful cards in MTG that I have seen in a while, if used right. I am making a legacy version of the deck, which includes some of the most terrifying low casting cost creatures around.

**The deck has undergone some very healthy revisions that make the mana curve (and playability) rock! Beseech the Queen, as always, makes the curve look funky though.

Thanks for all the support, three decks on the front page in a row is unbelievable.

This is a sick idea.

For the orb tutor, you can do Kuldotha forgemaster + mana ramp myr or free artifacts. Idk if that will clog up the deck, but it's a thought.

Sign in blood/night's whisper if you want some speed. Grim tutor/cruel tutor. If it means you can get a fatty out really fast, the loss of 2 life is probably worth it. Beseech the queen was always my favorite.

you know WD40, beseech the queen ROCKS in this build. I am going to replae the increasing. they are way too slow.

I was just gonna add another comment that said get rid of increasing. Beseech the queen will make this deck so much better. You can tutor pretty much everything you need for 1~2 mana. :)

Honestly, I would replace 2 of the diabolic tutors for 2 more beseech. The only advantage with diabolic is that you can fetch a land, or your dragon for 1 less. Everything else you have to pay 3, 2, or 1 more mana to tutor.

Also, dark ritual seems somewhat out of place. All of your stuff is so low cost anyway. The advantage of dark ritual is that you could play 2 (or 3 if you've got dual lands out) spells during your turn (total of 3~4 cards cast). Without the dark ritual you should still be able to cast 2 permanents from T3 onward (2 cards). With dark ritual you are going to burn through your hand like no other, and I think at best you with the mana ramp, you can only get a T3 win (if your opponent has no blockers or counters), although highly unlikely (back to the point that without the dark ritual you should be able to cast 2 permanents from T3 onward).

I think sign in blood would speed the deck up a lot more, make it smoother, and get you card advantage.

What I just said makes sense to me. Haha >.<

WD40 COMPLETELY AGREED, except for one little change. I am going to use night's whisper. same exact idea, better mana flexibility.

i made a version of this deck a couple weeks ago, i found that only relying on 4 T-orbs isnt verry consistent, you should splash blue so you can include stifle and brainstorm is an amazing addition to any deck no matter what

1

I have thought about a blue black variation which I think could be possibly more potent, but I am really liking this variation thus far. I have all the deck search mechanics to ensure my torpor orb. but you may be right, I will look into it!

ya if your going hardcore legacy with fetchlands and duals 2 colors and a 3rd color splash is EASY, but since your on a 150 budget thats not gunna work too well, though id strongly suggest looking into lim-dul's vault if you do splash blue

Considering this is legacy, you might want to make a sideboard. I'd suggest dash hopes, incendiary command, and some other stuff. A cool creature in standard for this deck would be Treacherous Pit-Dweller and Demonlord of Ashmouth. SOLID deck man!!! I like it a lot.

Great deck! Maybe it could use an Elixer of Immortality in case your opponent destroys those orbs. More tutors wouldn't be a bad thing either.

1

This is going to sound ridiculous, but i would sideboard 4 sign in blood to replace night's whisper against certain decks.

My one buddy plays a terribly annoying control deck, and once he stabilizes creatures generally aren't doing anything ever again. I've killed him with sign in blood on several occasions.

So to all the comments thus far, THANK YOU! To answer the questions about the main not being blue- quite honestly, I am almost broke making this deck anyways, and adding stifle will only make it worse for me. I love stifle, I love the blue variation, but I also really have a place in my heart for B/R, and I like the feel of this more. And I don't have 80 bucks. besides, Vexing and Avatar are so fun. I can't say no.

Looks like you've been commenting on everyone's deck to get them to come here. GOOD STRATEGY I would say:)

The only thing that comes to mind for this deck is Heartless summoning:
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewCard_Popup.aspx?CardName=Heartless%20Summoning&Edition=ISD&Print=1

You're phyrexian dreadnought would be a 11/11 creature when it's on the battlefield, so you wouldn't have to sac it when it enters. Or it would let you cast your dragon turn 3.

1
Posted 12 May 2012 at 23:26

unfortunately, phyrexian dreadnought's ability has nothing to do with it's P/T. no matter what, you have to sac total power of 12 to keep him, no matter what his size is.

Not sure how to improve other than 1-2 more land for the dragon/tutors

Assault Strobe for a fast win :)?

1
Posted 13 May 2012 at 02:41

Assault strobe JUST might do the trick here. huh, that is a freakin' excellent idea. I will have to see if I can work it in.

0
Posted 13 May 2012 at 03:09

assault strove is good, but I like double cleave better because it is an instant, and only 1 more to cast.

1
Posted 15 May 2012 at 07:16

Also, to everyone who comments leveler or eater of days: Leveler cost 5 mana. not really worth it, when half my creatures can provide that power for significantly less. Eater of Days: if my torpor gets blown up in reaction, his negative is FAR too destructive to risk. It would literally be a loss of the game, I think.

sensei's divining top is much better than diabolic tutor. also, have you tried treacherous pit dweller? might be better than dragon imo

1

1

Awsome deck! U really nailed it with putting Queen & also Tutor in it... Stabil, like hell... It' only weakness is stuff like "Surgical Extraction" (after destroying, or makeing U discard the Orb)... but U probably allready have a 1 or 2 mana creature/ a 12/12-trample or a 7/7-trample on the battlefield...

1
Posted 13 May 2012 at 14:21

very interesting. i like the theme of discarding into phyrexian dreadnaught. seems fun. though, that orb seems like it would shut down all that discarding, coming from creature ability.

1

Just a thought, but try kicking the 2 Hunted Dragons and 2 Night's Whisper over to the sideboard for 4 Dark Rituals? I found with my deck when I ran Night's Whisper before I changed to Brainstorm it was screwing me in conjunction with my Ancient Tombs, also, there is no real need to pull that far ahead in card drawing if you are able to get the cards you need. Just a suggestion though, grain of salt and all that jazz, happy dreadnoughting :)

1
Posted 13 May 2012 at 17:00

You need Dark Ritual. Turn 1 Torpor Orb and Juggernaught? YES PLEASE!

1
Posted 13 May 2012 at 17:21

That's a really niche thing, since you need 4 cards to pull that off. I don't think it's worth cutting out 4 of anything out of this deck for that.

1
Posted 13 May 2012 at 17:47

Why not swap out a couple copies of creatures for some Treacherous Pit Dwellers? They're a [B][B] 4/3 with Undying, and Torpor Orb keeps them on your field instead of your opponents when they die.

Random thought. Did anyone else notice that phyrexian dreadnought says sacrifice, and then says bury? Anyone else find it I that they put 2 different terms for the same thing here?

1
Posted 17 May 2012 at 18:38

Ah. it would seem that they are the same, but they actually aren't.

Sacrifice: YOU put a creature into the graveyard from the battlefield, it can't be regenerated.

Bury: PLAYER puts a creature into the graveard from the battlefield, it can't be regenerated.

Back in the old days, bury could actually be TARGETED onto another creature. It was like a terminate effect basically.

But with new rules came the removal of the word bury, and now it is much clearer, I think.

Bury had like 55 different meanings. hahaha
