Deck Description

The large amount of Plains and the spell, Gift of Estates, allows the player to create a large mana pool quickly. This allows creatures that cost only one or two mana, such as Serra Ascendant, to be put onto the battlefield in order to hold it until a larger amount of mana is available later in the game. Aegis of Honor, which costs only one plain, prevents damage being done by instants and sorceries directed at the player. Once five or six mana have been established, the deck really heats up with cards like Planar Portal, which allows deck searching for any card in order to place it into your hand. Then Cryptic Gateway allows the tapping of two creatures to instantly add another creature of that same type to battle without paying the mana cost. This way, largely expensive cards such as Akroma, Angel of Wrath and Reya Dawnbringer can be played earlier than normal. These creatures are greatly benefited by spells and abilities such as Light from Within which increases their attack and block values. If Light from Within and Akroma are in play together, Akroma becomes a 9/9 creature. If a Silver Seraph (with threshold) and a Angelic Page are also in play, Akroma becomes a 12/12 creature in addition to all of her other abilities.
