Deck Description

My version of a deck my friend xze built. Mine focuses more on getting the shrine to nyx firing on all cylinders.

Also the key factor that makes this mono red devotion different is more focus on clearing my opponents boards to prevent them from using their own shrine. Devotions weakness I removal and red handles that well. I think I can out race a 2/1 pro red so long as the rest of my opponents board is clear.

Deck discussion for mono red devotion

I'm working on something very similar to this, but instead of Five Alarm Fire, I want to use Volcanic Geyser. I'm worried about life gain, though, like Whip and Sphinx's. How does this fare against control types of decks?

Usually the mono colored decks are doing rather well. Only type of control that's doing well is the white blue verdict revelation based ones and those are even having trouble with the power of the shrine. If you fear the whip sideboard artifact destruction. Red does that well. Also burning earth does well against the revelation based decks with their nonbasic lands. Red in my opinion is one of the top two monoclored right now. Second to white I think this is the way to go. The mono black are tough to beat but you vam usually outrun them.

Ooooo, Burning Earth... love it. :)

The other thing I worry about is Detention Sphere. If I build something like this, I might splash a little while in the sideboard for Wear // Tear.

That was the card I was gonna suggest anyways and a lot of these monoclored decks are starting to splash a support color. .magic has trouble staying mono colored. Players like options. Even the top deck white is spkashig black for thoughtseize.

Maybe Fanatic of Mogris as a finisher?

Definitely could use him. Not really sure where though and it seems to work without him somehow.

You could probably drop one Purphorus and one Chandra and throw two Fanatics in. Same CMC and everything! :D
