Deck Description

THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR COMMENTING ON THIS DECK!!!! This is my first front page deck!!!
Working on a modern deck that is competitive. This deck seems to do the trick. I've been playtesting a little the problem decks were super fast dredge so (Rest in Peace). Also The mana ramp to Grapeshot, the pyromancer Ascension, and Valakut/counter so (Leyline of Sactity). For Tron decks I put in (Pithing Needle) and (Nevermore) . I havent had any trouble with Jund with this deck. Please let me know if you have any suggestions that might help. Thank you.

Seems good and solid. The only thing I would have thought to add is some draw options - Ponder, Brainstorm, something like that. It will allow you to get more options faster and also to make sure you'll get the miracle cards when you need 'em, and it will also make sure you have enough lands which is important for you so you can cast your heavier spells (Gisela...).

Hmmm, the patriot color scheme is interesting for Modern. Answers to most of the format are available, and what isn't answerable by what it packs from Boros, the counters theoretically should deal with.

I'd lower the mana curve a bit to makeup for only having three counters, and I see how this can beat Jund, but I wouldn't mark it past a 50:50 MU in skilled hands. The problem being that your clock is about the same speed as Jund, and they have the benefit of running five to six disruption spells in the main deck.

I can't believe I never thought of using this color scheme in Modern, I think after the banning of Punishing Fire, and Green Sun's Zenith killed my Blue Zoo deck I just gave up on tinkering with weird combinations. Thanks for showing me that they can still be brutals outside of Legacy :D

Staticaster clears the board of tokens for aggro token decks. Thanks for the comment.

I think Mizzium Mortars is a lot more consistent than Bonfire and kills more easily. With the money you save by dropping Bonfires you can improve your creature base and play some Kitchen Finks- they're great even not in green/white. I like this deck a lot though, it seems fine :D

Great idea. That will save a ton of money and will work out just as well. As far as Kitchen Finks what would I take out for it? Goblin is fast, Vexing has been great, Geist is a beast, and Staticaster clears the board of tokens and bigger things if I have multiple.

Yeah stick Staticaster to the sideboard. Chandra doesn't seem that great in this deck. Maybe you should swap it out for a few Blade Splicers.

I really like the deck a lot, but i'm with a few others in saying that Staticaster is not needed. I think Slagstorm, or Pyroclasym would be better choices.

Both of those would wipe out my Geist so i cant use them. So, I'm going to sub kitchen finks in for Staticaster for playtesting. Any other suggestions on a creature to replace Staticaster let me know. Thanks for commenting

I don't like the verdicts. It seems counter active against the rest of your deck. I would drop that for the two remands from your board. Then play a couple copies of hate cards for affinity, infect, storm, etc. in the side board. Also, ensnaring bridge seems odd. I would replace those with a few more hate cards. You may want to consider working a couple fetches in place of some of the scars duals.

Ensnaring Bridge was put in for Tron decks as a playtest. I'm still working on the best answer to take care Tron. I still have a few that I want trying to find easy answers for. I dont have trouble with Jund or most of the top decks right now. But any sideboard suggestions for Tron and Affinity decks would be helpful. Obviously if the cards are there I dont have problems. As far as storm Leyline of Sanctity usually ends that. Infect I usually have blockers for everything and what I dont I burn bolt or incinerate.

The verdicts are more of an oh crap thing sometimes ill run into a super fast aggro that even I cant keep up with. The good thing is most of the time after 1 wipe they are done.

0

You may think about sowing salt for your tron matchup. From what I see you're running a pretty fast aggro deck that should not get outraced. I'd at least swap the verdicts with the remands. That should give you more of an edge since it should slow them down.

I like where you were going with the sowing salt i dont have the mana ramp for it i dont think karn is ot turn 3 or 4 at the latest but it would stop wurm and eldrazi ive been thinking alot about dropping the verdicts for another counter i rarely need to wipe the board. thanks for the comment.

I was thinking of putting in Talrand, Sky Summoner over blade splicer any thoughts?

0

Congratulations on front page :) Also, Pithing Needle doesn't stop Tron lands, maybe you should try Sowing Salts instead in the sideboard. Also, Mindbreak Trap can save you if Storm is giving you trouble in the sideboard, but Leyline of Sanctity probably IS better at that. I think Blade Splicer>Talrand here, since you're only running 17 instants/sorceries. Great deck :)

Good balance btw creatures and spell power. I just love Vexing Devil I have him in one of my decks and all my friends hate it when I get him first drop especially if I put Deviant Glee him. Great deck. Congrats on Top Deck.

Thank you. Vexing devil is a big part of this deck no doubt. I rarely get to attack with it. It is almost always removed.

For some reason my friends let me keep him and I just make them pay for it later on. Then they have to waste a spell to get rid of him so it's win win for me. Best card in Ayacyn Restored in my oppinion.

I thought about hallowed fountain. Seachrome work for me. I don't want the deck to be all non basic lands. As far as path to exile I love the card when my opponents play it. A lot of times I would rather have the extra mana there are a lot of turn 2 geist for me. It works great just didn't want it in this deck. I don't want opponents to get to much mana over me. Thanks for commenting.

incinerate over lightning helix? and i would add shatterstorm to sb, you have no answer for affinity/robots

0

I didn't even think about shatterstorm. I have played quite a few affinity artifact decks I just haven't had problems with them. I'll keep that in mind. Lightning helix is great just didn't put it in. I might put it in. I like how incinerate is basically the end. No regeneration. But 3 life is always a plus.

Thank you! That is what I am all about thinking outside the box. If you build the same as everyone else then it defeats the purpose in my opinion. As soon as they find an effective answer to the mainstream decks it shuts down everyone. A homebrew is hard to find the answers for because it is rarely seen. Thats just my thought on it.

drop bladehold verdict mortars dissipate incinerate add spell pierce delver path lightning helix and snapcaster. Then add at least 6 fetch lands and then some one of shock lands trust me. This will help your decks consistency and power level. Cards like incinerate dissipate and mortars dont fit the power level or the speed of modern. and bladehold and verdict dont fit this deck well

0
Posted 24 November 2012 at 00:49

Yeah that pretty much changes the deck completely. It runs great as is. Changing it into a delver deck won't help. My opinion it would do worse. If I was going delver I would add in talrand I think he would be nasty in a delver deck. Thank you for commenting.

also you could add some serum visons if u add in delver if you dont add in delver then replace the delvers I suggested with Vendillion clique and then add izzet charm charm and keep blade splicer

why arent you running path to exile? drop incinerate for them it costs 1 less mana it exiles ny creature and you can target ur own stuff if ur getting mana screwd also why arent you runnin more dual lands? you have a whole plethora of them to choose from. heres some to think about- filter lands (cascade bluffs?) fetchlands (arid mesa, scalding tarn) you have to run shocklands if you run fetchlands to put them to their full efficency . hope this helped check out my retraced memories deck its modern too nd could use a tweak thnx

0
Posted 25 November 2012 at 17:45

I don't like fetchlands so those are out. Since those waste life. I don't run into mana issues very much at all. Incinerate is in for direct damage as well as removal where path is removal only. As it stands the deck runs great. Thank you for your comment it is much appreciated
