Deck Description

I friggin' love humans. So, I want to take my standard WG Human deck and make it modern. I'm having trouble doing so, as I don't play a lot of modern.
Anyway, I am COMPLETELY OPEN to suggestions. I would love all the help I can get!

I will edit this, and the following, description anytime I edit the deck. So, keep an eye out for any new combos that get added.

If it helps at all, the meta I'm facing is merfolk, jund, storm, affinity, and red/black aggro.

EDIT: Removed 2 Gavony Townships and 2 Sunpetal Groves for 2 Cavern of souls and 2 Mutavaults.

EDIT: Removed 2 Avacyn Pilgrims, 2 Icatian Javelineers, and 2 Studen of Warefares, for 4 Aether Vials, and 2 Aegis of the Gods.

EDIT: Main decked a Mirran Crusader in place of Blade Splicer. She inst necessary unless I'm playing against a sword of war and peace or something.

EDIT: Removed 2 Avacyn Pilgrims for 2 Noble Hierarch, because they're simple better.

How to Play

This is a really simple deck to play; Its all about speed. Most every card in this deck has a low mana cost, so its not too tough to play 2 cards a turn. Either that, or just vial them down and use the spare mana to cast what thalia make more expensive.

The multiple lords are there to strengthen gather the townsfolk and my weaker pilgrims.

Deck discussion for Modern WG Humans

Would highly recommend cavern of souls.
I would drop 4 mayor for 4 imposing sovereign ( does work against splinter twin)
I would also drop 2 student and 2 javelineers for 2 aegis of the gods and 2 aether vial.
Then 2 avacyn pilgrim for 2 more aether vial.
Also should drop 2 gather the townsfolk for 1 more elspeth and 1 more thalia.
I would mainboard precinct and crusader over accorder.

All of this is to basically keep your deck fairly aggro while have mainboard tools against twin and amulet bloom. I'm not sure how you do against blue white delver or tron, but this should be the best way to have game against the meta. I also don't know what your meta is like so this is just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the comment!
I love the idea of cavern of souls. It and mutavault could easily replace the gavony townships. I never thought of aegis of the gods before, but he would be great for stopping my friend's thoughtsieze's. Imposing sovereign is a neat idea, I should try her out sometime. Replacing the pilgrims with aether vial is also a good move (I actually thought about copying the idea from my friend's merfolk deck. I definitely want a second elspeth, but inst three thalia a bit too many? Her legendary status makes extra kinda dead weight. She does have a bulls-eye on hear head though.

I love the ideas, but I'm not entirely sure I should remove both the mayors AND the accorder at the same time. The lordship and battle cry help me outpace my friend's merfolk well.

If it helps at all, the meta I'm facing is merfolk, jund, storm, and red/black aggro.

Thalia is a great toolbox card against all those decks. it is a 2/1 first strike that blocks aggro like a champ, makes counterspells more expensive and makes storm combo a lot more expensive. she is an instant removal target for all three decks so having 3 or 4 isn't terrible.
Against jund it makes their abrupt decay and thoughtseize less valuable.

Yeah, I agree. I'll try running three of her; see how it handles. Her first strike will be nice. Only problem is the merfolk.
My merfolk friend doesn't play removal with it, or at least no more than 4 cards. They big problem is his spreading seas to make his guys unblockable. I was thinking Qasali Pridemage to be a okay body with exalted, and to kill his spreading seas or aether vials. Only problem, is he isn't a human. That's why I sideboarded sundering growth and dromoka's command. Can you think of anything better than those?

Krosan grip is usually the go to. Split second makes it basically uncounterable. Dromokas command is good, but it does't hit vial. Abrupt decay is usually the way I go, but you aren't running black.
Qasali pridemage is really good. instant speed removal on a stick.

Krosan grip is very good, stops his curse catchers too But, at three mana I may as well use oblivion ring. Sure, its not an instant and is counterable. but, it hits creatures too. I think I'll just use pridemage. 2 or 3 non humans isn't going to be a problem for the champion of the parish
