the obvious card that springs to mind that you need is coat of arms, a cheap rare that buffs up your weenies into massive threat quite effectively. The one downside is that it buffs your opponents creatures, however, whats wrong with a little group hugging? On a similar note beastmaster ascension serves similar purpose. For protection i'd recommend asceticism, I have found it great to protect your creatures from pesky non green players with removal =D Lastly I would recommend skullclamp, which is also reasonably inexpensive and generates stupendous amounts of card advantage.
