Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Artifacts (4)

Deck Description

Now Legacy Legal :)

Painter's Servant makes all cards have a color of blue(or any color). Then you can mill their entire deck out with Grindstone with one activation. You can also counter any card with Pyroblast, Red Elemental Blast or discard any card by usin Force of Will / Misdirection.

Lion's Eye Diamond and Mox Opal speed things up and make a Turn 1 win possible. Its also easy to pull off a turn 2 or 3.

Goblin Welder and Wurmcoil Engine fits just perfectly together.

Comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated..
Please comment on my other decks too ;)

Very potent deck. My play group have vowed to stick with legacy or I would love to run this. Thanks for the Wurmcoil Ideal, I will have to try it out soon. Also I fixed up that blue/white control version you commented on if you are interested. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=275812

And here is Mursh's legacy painter deck.. it's pretty similar to yours.

He runs 4x Ancient Tomb, and I would say that thats the way to go rather than go more traitors. Might drain your life, but if you wont get your win in that particular round, you can drop a land and try again next turn instead of loosing traitors to drop more land.

Furthermore as use Nario has told you before in another context you should have at least 1 basic land of each of you main types to avoid problems with wasteland/crucible combo. Right now you only have an island, but I would encourage you to get 1 mountain in there as well. Also I wonder if 3x Tezz is too many, but then again it could be the right amount. He is just a 5-drop that you have to hardcast, which is quite expesive compared to the rest of the deck.

Tezz is a 4 drop mate! The thing about the basics is that I don't need that much red and still got the opals to make me red or black mana

Hi there again crowns, I gotta say I am intrigued again by your card choices. Tezzeret is a great card with artifact based decks and is a great win condition or searcher but is it really worth running 3 or 4 in a painter combo deck? I am worried he slows the combo more than he helps it, Wurmcoil is already an awesome second win condition. How have the play tests been going?

Crucible is a Force of Will worthy target in most cases, it opens up the door to too many headaches.

Here is a really fun version of painter that I made that had Tezzeret, its not competitive level but its still very capable. You could get some ideas of other black splash options.

I look forward to hearing about your trials with Tezz/painter/welder!

My vision before Tezz was a casual remenber?, but ill tell you it beat em all, specially the Mental Misstep was stupid sick! Im sad to say goodbye to that one.

Perhaps U boys are right about the number of Tezz.. ill probably cut down to 2 but not further.., this fella is just insane with all my artiys. He will protect me and himself by converting a artifact land immediately, that's briliant...

With one less Tezz what to run then?

Well in my play group leyline of sanctity shows up a lot so I personally like 3 or more Red Elemental Blast/Pyroblast, Lions Eye is awesome to give you that turn 2 win and is good for getting wurmcoil into your graveyard to use goblin welder.

I would suggest trying out Llawan, Cephalid Empress or Trinket Mage (surprisingly has won me the game more than once).

Leyline of sanctity is a sideboard card and that's the reason I got Show and Tell and Emrakul in my sideboard. - a very powerful combo and fits perfect and fast when Ancient Tomb is ind the main!
Cant use Red Elemental Blast/Pyroblast together with FoW, so wonna be careful how many red spells I got.

Cephalid Empress is great and it is up to you to think what u gonna meet, but for a 4 dropy i would pref drop a Tezz! -causes me to bring forward. Cephalid Empress could probably be best sideboard against Vendilion :)

Tried out Trinket Mage in my last version and Actually I liked the little guy, he's blue and a tutor and body..maybe that still could help my out having a mox for my Tezz.. mmmh..Intuition is better to give me what I want... The damn Painter is what I want...!! ill drink on it, happy weekend boys :) lets U hear when it is fully tested...

but why?!.............

Dunno if you know, but lands are always colorless. They errata'd the rules to break this combo. You can't mill in 1 turn. The moment you hit a land the mill stops.

U might want to add tinker some other artifact tutors, since both your combo pieces are artifacts

enel39 @ I know that lands are colorless, but they are still cards. Plz read Painter once again, it says: As Painter's Servant comes into play, choose a color. All cards that aren't in play, spells, and permanents are the chosen color in addition to their other colors. -- then mill the entire deck :)

I know what Painter's servant says, and after it was made this combo did in fact work. But read the errata for the card. They're technical rules the creators made to break the combo. It doesn't work, because regardless of effects, lands are ALWAYS colorless. I know what I'm talking about, please look into it.

@ elel39:

Can you please post a link to where you find this info, because this combo has been played in official tournaments (and I belive it still is).

I've searched the web for anything that proves you right, but so far I've only found things that proves you wrong.

Here is one of the more recent posts I've found, it's only 5 months old:

Not saying that this is a new combo, just that this I what I play in the moment. The meta change all the time so its good to have different decks. The deck u wonna show me is not legacy, so not that interesting. 4 vampiric tutor!...gettin tired of casual.

It always makes me happy to see Misdirection, it seems that most people just skip over it nowadays... It's still an amazing card, and probably will continue to be so for a long time.

the feeling you get when it is thrown against a Hymn to Tourach is magical! lol this deck is weak against discard deck

0

I always start to smile when I pull that off, it really is a magical moment.

And yeah, this combo is historically weaker to discard than the common handful. But what you REALLY need to watch out for is Null Rod and Stony Silence, they will be the bane of your, and any local affinity players day

Kuldotha forgemaster?? Would work well with your artifact lands. I've never actually run one of these decks, so how are the matchups. I run a high tide deck, that, no offense, seems like could win pretty easily against this deck

0

A High Tide deck might give me problems (first round) Look at my package of sideboard. Think a mono blue deck will get big problems playing against 13 cheap counterspells!?!

Worst opponent will probably be a discard deck or a arti-hate deck. -that's why i got Emrakul and Show N tell in my sideboard. They are not artifacts but still extremely quick to pull off...

Tormod's Crypt is against decks with Emrakul or other cards forcing my opponent shuffle there GY in to there library.

Kuldotha Forgemaster is fun tho but not my cup of tee :) Hope this answered your questions...
