Deck Description

Fun, cheap Izzet deck meant for casual play.Block constructed, it is designed to control your opponent long enough to get a sizable army to finish off your opponent in one shot, empowered by Dynacharge, and Guttersnipe sniping away at your opponent's life with each spell cast.

Note: Sideboard is really a collection of other cards I liked and would work well in the deck.

How to Play

Ideally you want to stall your opponent so you have just a few creatures out, which is where DOwnsize and Blustersquall come in. The trick to the deck is either attack when your opponent's field is tapped, or use Teleportal to go through unblocked, and charge your army with Dynacharge. My thought was it should look something like this:

Turn 1: Blistercoil Weird
Turn 2: Goblin Electromancer
Turn 3: Guttersnipe
Turn 4: Sit back, and use Blustersquall or Downsize Overloaded on your opponent's turn. (Opponent has 18 life)
Turn 5: Attack with all three creatures, Overload Dynacharge - Blistercoil is now a 4/3, and both Goblins are 4/2. Guttersnipe deals another 2 points of damage. (Opponent is now at 4 life)
On your opponent's turn, if you have four lands (which is plausible), than two are untapped thanks to Goblin Electromancer reducing the Overload cost on Dynacharge, giving you enough mana to Overload Downsize if your opponent attacks, and if you do, that would mean your opponent is down to 2 life!

That should give a good idea of how the deck runs. Low cost creatures and spells, low cost deck, control your opponent to stall out, Dynacharge gives the weak creatures a strong punch, and can take your opponent out in one shot with the right setup.

(Side note: In the example I gave, a Teleportal cast on any creature would have made it game as Guttersnipe deals another 2 points of damage, and Blistercoil and one other creature gains an additional +1/+1 and +1/+0 respectively)

Deck discussion for Budget Izzet - Casual

There's a reason I always kill guttersnipe.

Haha yeah he can get out of hand rather quickly.

Guttersnipe + Invisible Stalker + 3-10 Ciphers = You're gonna have a bad time.

Absolutely! The only downside to using Cipher is that it only has one target and I'm going for complete control. That does give me a good idea for a future deck though, thanks!

Well, some of them only have one target, Hidden Stings targets two things, potentially allowing you to reset your lines if necessary and Stolen Identity allows you to clone the Guttersnipes. So yeah, they could work, but a different deck is what is really needed.

I personally prefer frostburn weird over blistercoil weird as well. More versatile and can do decent damage, maybe not as much potentially though.

Well, you do have a point. But Blistercoil Weird can double up as a defender as well (note the 'untap' effect of playing a spell) even if he attacks, making him, well, more versatile. Frostburn is more powerful without support, sure, but save up some spells, and Blistercoils can hurt. Those are my two cents on the matter.

Agreed. I had Frostburn Weird in the deck originally, but he was replaced by Nivix Cyclops who I feel fits the deck a bit better.

you may want to consider artful dodge instead of teleportal. You can cast it and then flashback it for two triggers on your cyclops and guttersnipe. I've had great luck with it. My favorite is to have two cyclops, overload mizzium skin, then cast artful dodge to attack for 20 unblockable hexproof damage

That's not a bad idea at all. I was going for block constructed which is why I didn't look for anything like Artful Dodge. Teleportal is fun overloading on all of the creatures as well, but Artful Dodge is the superior choice outside of block constructed.

what about weapon surge instead of dynacharge. it still pumps and gives first strike which will probably save your creatures will attacking

That's why it's there in the sideboard. I agree it's great and could be moved into the main deck for more aggression. The focus on the deck is to attack without having to worry about your opponent being able to block, whether their field is tapped out due to Blustersquall, or your creatures are unblockable due to Teleportal. Still, in other situations you are right!
