Deck Description

Kiln Fiend is usually paired with Surrakar Spellblade, and I think the combination of explosive unblockable damage with a card drawing engine is a deadly mix. I humbly present a budget take on UR Distortion Fiend.

Crazy as it sounds, this deck doesn't need Fiend to win. Surrakar with Neurok Invismancer, Assault Strobe, and Distortion Strike, backed up with burn and counters, is actually a wincon.

Of course, turn 3 goldfish wins are always good, too. If you draw a Fiend, Distortion Strike, Assault Strobe and a Lightning Bolt, you're good to go. Might want to wait a turn to have mana available for a counter, though.

I like it. Very nice.

Maybe add in Fling so, in response to their removal after having pumped up kiln friend, you can still hit then in the face with at least SOME damage?

I like seeing decks that are UR that don't rely on Pyromancer Ascension. What do you think of including Redirect/Reverberate?

Thanks, all. I haven't taken it to an FNM yet (mostly because the hobby shop nearest to me isn't running them yet), but my goal was to make a more reliable deck based on an inherently unstable card.

@Dacenguy - I've always really enjoyed UR, for lots of reasons (hell, red and blue are an aesthetically pleasing combination). Redirect is almost always a dead draw for me, because there are few excellent targets for it in my meta, but it's not a bad idea. Reverberate, on the other hand, is potentially back-breaking for my opponent. It's cheap, and even if it only copies a lightning bolt... that's still devastating. A little pricey, though. Thanks for the comment!
