Deck Description

This is a deck list I started here:
http://www.mtgvault.com/dabil/decks/classic-pauper-selesnya-beats/

I have been building this list and trying to make a tournament caliber version of the deck. The changes I made from my last post are:

Out:

4x Abundant Growth:

I have never been all that happy drawing this card, as it really seems to be just a place holder. It helps get me the colors that I need, but since I moved the 2x Plains and the Evolving Wilds into the deck, I really don't need these. Plus I already have much better Utopia Sprawl in the deck, which is actually a mana producing card, where as this card is just a mana filter. I really need to add some creature control, and this card just doesn't carry it's weight in the deck at this point.

In:

4x Journey to Nowhere:

I move 3 of these from the sideboards and add a forth. Its still an enchantment which adds to the overall strategy of the deck list, and gives me my much needed creature control for creatures like Standard Bearer.

3x Sandstorm:

I really feel like I need a little something extra against Storm decks, which I view is my worse match-up. Sandstorm is the best card I can think of that will help in these colors.

I played this newly tuned deck at Gatherling.com's Top 8 Pauper Classic 1.05 on 01/25/13 and finished 1st! I went 3-0 with a bye on the night, and defeated one of this decks biggest nemesis's in the process: White Weenie.

Here is the video which shows the final match I played, which happens to be against, you guessed it, White Weenie:

Deck discussion for Classic Pauper: Selesnya Beatz

I feel like this newly tuned version with the Journey's is a solid Classic Pauper deck list. It now has answers for everything you face, has a solid mana base, and is a very viable Tier 1 deck list IMHO. I still think there is room to improve it, as I still don't like the mana curve. I sided out the Snake Umbra almost every match, which tells me that it just isn't a great fit in the maindeck. I think removing those 3 Snake Umbra's, and bringing in some 2 casting cost enchantment, such as Crystallization, would improve the deck list by smoothing out the mana curve. Most of the time my turn 2's were dead, since I have limited play on turn 2. Giving up a free turn like that, makes winning that much harder.

Crystallization would add a little more creature control against Standard Bearer, and is a little better than Journey to Nowhere, which has the potential to allow the creature to be bounced back to hand and be replayed. Crystallization would instead, cause the creature to be exiled from the game. In addition Crystallization can be used to stop Guardian of the Guildpact, which is another creature that can be tough against this deck.

There may be other better 2 casting cost enchantments out there that are better, particularly in different meta's. I just haven't spent any time looking as of late. I am just sitting back and enjoying my tournament victory for now, and starting to look forward to the next deck list I am going to tackle. I hope you all enjoy this look at building a winning Classic Pauper deck list. Remember that this is post 2 of the series. Post 1 can be found here:
