T2 Assault a Graveyard

by dainir on 22 December 2014

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (14 cards)

Creatures (3)

Sorceries (7)

Instants (4)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

The original goal of the deck was to build around Nighthowler and Sidisi, in hopes of having a huge nighthowler and an army of zombies.

After playing the deck once I found that milling with Phenax and the nighthowler, Sidisi was useless and is no longer in the deck.

Overall the goal is to get out either the nighthowler or the Nemesis of mortals to eventually kill your opponent. IF you can't get through their wall of minions, don't worry. Just mill them to death after they have attacked.

Scout the borders, Sultai Charm and Satyr Wayfinder allow you to move through your deck very quickly to get the things you need.

Sultai Ascendancy, Courser of Kruphix, along with self milling, allow you to have mana drops almost every turn.

Garruk adds tons of utility with planeswalker removal and deathtouch beasts.

I am looking for any and all advice on this deck that you can give. I would like to make it a regular FNM deck.

Deck discussion for T2 Assault a Graveyard

This is not a bad deck my concern is just that it would receive a beat down by mono red aggro so make the entire sideboard removal black for aggro. Also our weakness for us graveyard players is Tormod's Crypt

i would get rid of one the despise and sultai charm and add two bile blights to help against some of those aggro decks. If you want more tips look at my Sultai delve deck.

Thank you both for the inputs. Especially the bile blight tip.

Outside of bileblight I wasn't impressed with the mass removal spells. Instead of removal I plan on speeding up and adding life gain by swapping out:
despises >> thoughtseize (So I can take out their burn spells as well)
bassara tower archer >> gurmag swiftwing or disowned ancestor
Garruk + 1 Sultai Ascendency >> 3x the Eternal thirsts

Your thoughts on this would be nice. I don't have many friends who play mono red aggro)

I would get rid of 1 satyr way finder and two sultai ascendancy and add three murderous cut (for more removal). Garruk is neat but I would add other things beside him, I would add taigam's scheming to look through your deck for what you need. Also I'm a bit confused on why there is a phenax I think he would come in no use ( meant for mill). I'll look at other good green cards or black etc. to help out this deck. Here is my sultai deck if you want tips http://www.mtgvault.com/randomdecks/decks/sultai-2/

I think the logic behind Phenax is to feed the nighthowler I've play tested the two together the only real problem is when your playing a deck with a low creature count.

Murderous cut would make it harder to feed nighthowler

Phenax feeds nighthowler, but it allows me to tap satyrs and other creatures to place the top card of my library in my graveyard and reveal the card below it, aiming to have a land on the top of my deck. If I send a creature to the graveyard I am better off for it.

For removal, I have found sultai charm and Garruk to be enough card specific removal. The 3/3 beasts with deathtouch have done a good job keeping opponents in check.

I will definitely look at taigam's Schemeing.

Problem is garruk cost a lot just to play him but if you like ok and also would nyx weaver work it helps fuel the howler

I agree that is a problem with garruk. I have a little bit of a man crush on him. Other than Phenax he is the only thing that is being played with a cmc >4. (Nemesis should be played for 3 or less and Murderous Cut will also be played for much less.)

How would nyx weaver interact with sultai ascendancy? I avoided it for that reason. Am I able to choose which occurs first, my "scrying" or the discard? What I liked about Sultai Ascendancy is that it allowed me to choose what was happening.

Also, for Epyc, I have found that I have plenty to exile that are not creatures. So I am giving it a shot.

After looking at comments and being wiling to invest a little more in the deck I have made the following changes:

4x Rageclaw mystic --> 4x Sylvan Caryatid
3x Bassara Tower Archer --> 3x dissipate
3x Despise --> 3x murderous Cut (there are plenty of things to exile that aren't creatures)

I moved towards having a little greater control and removal at the suggestion of others.

I think I am getting closer to having the deck fairly well laid out and I look forward to testing it. However I am concerned about not having enough creatures to stuff in the graveyard.
