You're right, however I only play casually with friends and we don't use a banlist. The whole point of EDH is to play with fun cards that normally you could not in the other formats! :)
Cept that Grizzles is broken in edh...
I imagine this deck would like the new esper legend from Commander 2013, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic. I made a deck for him myself, http://www.mtgvault.com/lol42daddy/decks/do-this-instead-oloro-edh-2/ , and it also build on a bunch of life gain effects, combined with card draw and cards that lets me do other things "Instead" of drawing etc. Check it out :)
