Deck Description

The deck is based on the deck Claus Nielsen played at Danish Legacy Masters Autumn 2015. The deck is a combo deck that utilizes Painter's Servant to make all cards a single chosen color, and grindstone to mill out your opponents deck in a single activation.

How to Play

Painter is a combo deck that utilizes Painter's Servant to make all cards a single chosen color, and Grindstone in order to mill out your opponent in a single activation.

When playing Painter's Servant, the ideal color to choose is blue. This allows you to use Pyroblast/Red Elemental Blast to its fullest capabilities, being able to destroy any permanent or hard-counter any spell for just a single red mana. Once the Servant and your Grindstone are in play, you can activate the Grindstone in order to mill out your opponents entire deck.

Aside from our combo, there are quite a few utility cards to either help assemble the combo, or protect it:
-Imperial Recruiter when played is able to tutor out any of the creatures we play in our deck. You ideally want to target either Painter's Servant or Magus of the Moon.
-Goblin Welder protects our combo, being able to weld our dead Phyrexian Revoker, Sensei's Divining Top, or Great Furnace in order to get back our Painter's Servant or our Grindstone from the graveyard.
-Phyrexian Revoker comes in and shuts down our opponents planeswalkers or value creatures such as Jace, the Mind Sculptor or Deathrite Shaman.
-Jaya Ballard, Task Mage acts as half of a Red Elemental Blast on a stick, as we can discard some unneeded cards from our hand in order to blow up our opponents permanents.
-Magus of the Moon is in here as a 1 of, as it is a Blood Moon that we can tutor with the Imperial Recruiter when needed.
-Sensei's Divining Top.... do I really need to explain this one?
-Ancient Tomb/City of Traitors are the lands that allow us to Turn 1 Blood Moon, or even combo out Turn 2 by playing Painter's Servant turn 1, and playing then activating Grindstone on Turn 2.
-Sudden Shock has proven itself a nice choice over Lightning Bolt as it kills problem creatures like our opponents Delver of Secrets without them being able to counter it.

Some sweet interactions you might come across:
Say we have Grindstone and Goblin Welder in play, and our opponent just Bolted our Painter's Servant. When we are ready to activate Grindstone, we can put the activation on the stack and weld our active Grindstone with the Painter's Servant in our graveyard, so when the grindstone activation resolves, Painter will be in play and we will still mill out our opponent.

Alternate Win Conditions:
In case we can't seem to assemble our combo, or our opponent just seems to have all the answers, we can still win without the combo by using Magus of the Moon/Blood Moon to shut down 3+ color strategies such as Abzan or 3-4 color Delver and play the slow beatdown strategy.
