Deck Description

Modern version of Deadguy Ale.

Without Hymn to Tourach, Sinkhole, Dark Ritual and Wasteland I've found it hard to make it as disrupting as the original archetype.

Without Stoneforge Mystic and SoFI/SoLS/Jitte it's also hard to create a toolbox/stoneblade version.

Ergo, this deck focuse more on conventional discard/aggro with The Rack.

Deck discussion for Modernguy Ale

Er... Rack can't be used in Modern. Modern requires the use of new-format cards only (i.e. Mirrodin and up). Other than that, neat deck.

Almost correct, The Rack was re-printed in Time Spiral: Timeshifted - making it legal in Modern :)

Actually, after double checking with the banlist - AEther Vial is not banned - I will most definitly add it to the deck at once.

Isn't Flickerwisp better then Spirit en-Dal? It has Evasion and can blink stuff. With Vial you flash in Wisp and you can steal 2 cards with TideHollow Sculler if you stack it right.
So far you only have a synergy with Sculler (but you could look into more come in play abuse like maybe Fiend Hunter) but you can also save creatures from spot removal or clear the way for your attackers.
Personally I like 2x Mirran Crusader in my legacy version, it's nice with equipment and the pro green is awesome. It's a good clock.

It is possible, though I consider Spirit en-Dal valuable for it's ability to render creatures unblockable without the opponent being able to counter it, primarily Hypnotic Specter for continued The Rack abuse should the opponent have creatures with flying or reach in play, but also for allowing Nantuko Shade to bypass opponents creatures to deal lethal damage to opponent or planeswalkers.

Will have to ponder this though.

Making something unblockable is usefull if what you are going to attack with is a Knight of the Reliquary or a 5/6 Goyf. Hypnotic Specter is vulnerable to every kind of removal in the format including burn and it's ability to disrupt is only useful early on in the game. I used to run Hypnotic Specter in legacy but recent years even a turn one dark ritual into Hypnotic Specter isn't strong enough, isn't worth running Specters for. They are bad mid/late game against everything except dedicated control. Modern is mostly aggro and doesn't have dark ritual so your specter is always going to be a mid game 2/2 flyer. I seriously doubt his effectiveness and making him unblockable sounds like overkill and a waste of resources.

Hm, it's true - I'ts possible that it's just not control-ish enough to get away with The Rack, I was hoping to find some synergy here though it might be weird build. Have been thinking about adding Tombstalker, though without Sensei's Divining Top it's really a huge gamble with Dark Confidant.

As mentioned, I will ponder on this and possibly shape it more thowards Blade/Toolbox.
