MOD97 is a player supported format idea by "Deemed Lord Of Mann". It's inspired by the much hyped player supported format Old School Magic 97 (which uses decks built with original cards from Alpha to Alliances) and the best Magic: The Gathering digital game ever created: the Micropose 1997 Shandalar.It tries to capture the feeling of the old cards and 97 games and combines this with Modern, my favorite format of all time into possibly semi-competitive budget builds (yeah, we are not spending 2K in a Juzam Djinn playset anytime soon.
Turn 1 Swamp Dark Ritual into Hypnotic Specter. I've lost my fair share of games to that combination and now it's time to kick back. Of course you don't have turn 1 hippies anymore but turn two can be just as devastating. It also borrows targeted discard which costed a lot more than we use to pay nowadays with Duress Thoughtseize and other clones which sinergises well with the acceleration into disruptive big threats like Desecration Demons (a Juzam Djinn copycat here).
