Looking at the upcoming cards in New Phyrexia, we see that metalcraft may become a viable tournament entry. In hopes of getting a jump on the soon to be released expansion, I decided to see what kind of things metalcraft is capable of. This is a fairly straight forward deck, mainly creature-based with a splash of control and anti-targeting. I've really been favoring the Piston Sledge / Ichor Wellspring combo recently, as it allows you to draw a card while paying nothing to equip a creature with +3/+1. I can't really express how amazing this is... A little first strike / doublestrike, deathtouch, lifelink, and protection from ALL COLORS, gives you a pretty aggressive, yet defensive, deck. Ajani and Garruk just belong in a deck like this. They allow you to untap lands, create 3/3s out of nothing, gain life, put counters with vigilance EOT, or +3/+3 and trample EOT on your creatures. EDIT: Etched champion DOES receive the 'Ult' buffs from Ajani and Garruk as they are player or world target abilities. As always, suggestions, criticism, ideas, and thoughts are welcome!

Wait a sec, Etched Champion will receive your planeswalker's effects just fine (if I'm not mistaken). Remember the protection acronym DEBT: things with protection can't be delt damage, enchanted/equipped, blocked, or targeted by anything they have protection from. Since Garruk's ultimate doesn't target anything, your Champions will get all giant-sized just fine, and given the wording on Ajani's token dispersal ability ("Each creature you control"/"those creatures"), I'm pretty sure the white lion will buff your metalcraft soldiers as well.
