Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

as I posted in the other deck I presented it is pretty much a work in progress. I started playing magic the other day and bought the tool kit for around $25.00 as such I am trying to build a few decks to test out what I have so i need some advice

Deck discussion for new player needing some more advice

Very rarely does "target player loses a life" help you as you must deal damage for mechanics like bloodthirst. For that reason I would take out Acolyte of Xathrid.

Bog Wrath is a decent side deck as it becomes an expensive creature against any deck without swamps.

Wall of Bone is a procrastination card, played with the hopes of either drawing a decent card or to hold out until you are able to drop something amazing. Having one is nearly a waste of a card as it does not sufficiently do either consistently.

Blood Seeker is an entertaining card against weenie decks!

Crypt Ripper is only good as a fire-starter because at it's best it is a 3/3 creature with haste for 5 mana, you can do better. The only card that is worse is Zombie Goliath.

Guul Draz Vampire is a great card once your opponent is low on live and worth keeping if not collecting four for the deck. Bloodthrone Vampire is good for the same reason.

Niman Sell-Sword is a half-way decent card but in a themed deck... like Alies! as this is not an Ally deck it is another expensive card that is not needed.

Cadiver Imp is great for creature recovery from the graveyard.

Child of Night is a decent lifegain early-game creature.

Grave Titan is made of sex.

Viscera Seer is entertaining in a combination with Reassembling Skeleton

Skinrender is worth having as it is a decent creature and a creature kill all in one.

Quaq Sickness is not as good as the numerous kill spells in black.

Chill to the Bone is a great card as no many (nobody I know) plays ANY snow creatures.

Disentomb is not as good as Cadaver Imp.

Tendrils of Corruption is good enough to keep if you must have a method of dealing direct damage. Cheaper and better than Corrupt.

Nemesis Trap is worth keeping in your sideboard as it is not nearly as good against non-white decks.

Last Kiss is ho-hum and Sorin's Thirst is a better, cheaper version.

Diabolic Tutor is good for retrieving your large bombs later in the game. I think of it as an additional chance to draw the card I want.

Doom Blade is a favorite but is a side-board card as it is, once more, a situation specific card.

Duress is the closest to a counter spell black has.

Sign in Blood is a great way to draw more cards.

Grasp of Darkness is a good card as it can get rid of indestructible and regeneration creatures. (As does Dismember and Disfigure)

Memoricide is based on a decent concept against decks filled with playsets but is sub-par to Surgical Extraction.

Horrifying Revelation is another entertaining trolling card.

I dislike Demon's Horn but it works in some decks.

I hope that all helps and I am happy to give you further advice but I do not want to tell you how to make the deck. Over all, there are good ideas and themes in the deck.

My advice would be keep magic fun and casual while you are learning the game. Get together with whatever friends or gaming social network you have and just play what cards you have access to for now and eventually you will discover what type of playing style you have and which mechanics, cards, and deck types suit your interests. But for now keep it fun.

And now for the advice= Be cautious when asking for help with your deck. Don't lean too heavily upon others for advice as pretty soon it may not even look like your deck anymore and YOU might not enjoy playing it. It is ok to ask for help, dont get me wrong, its just that sometimes you might get advice that may be too complex or advanced for you as your still learning the game. Just play the deck you have built and as you play against other decks you will start to see its strengths and weaknesses. The more you play you will see which cards are stronger and which weaker atleast in your deck. Generally speaking however, when building a deck centralize the core of the deck on a mechanic or style. Use cards that are functional to that purpose or goal. Be creative and have fun. After you have played a while and understand more of the deeper concepts and mechanics of this great game you will search out other cards and ideas to help you build decks. I suggest using the gatherer at wizards.com to read up on cards, mechanics and rulings. Magic is deep so learn as much as you can and keep playing and you can start down a life-long road of enjoyable gaming :)
