When I first started playing, Ice age was the most current set. The one card that scared us the most was my buddy's Minion of Leshrac. It was a giant, evil bat the destroyed everything with reckless abandon. This deck takes his (her?) terrifying tendencies up a notch.
There are two combos going on here. The first takes advantage of your commander.With Ertai, the Corrupted on the battlefield, you will need any creature or enchantment to offer up. 1 - Once the opponent casts a spell, sacrifice said creature or enchantment and pay your blue mana.2 - A spell has been countered! Lullmage Mentor blesses you with a merfolk token.3 - A creature has entered the battlefield! Your soul's Warden or Attendant blesses you with one life.4 - A creature has entered the battlefield! Carnival of Souls helps itself to your new life point in exchange for a black mana.5 - A creature has entered the battlefield! Intruder Alarm ensures that your creatures are all untapped - Including Ertai and Sea Scryer.6 - You now have a sacrificial merfolk token, a floating black mana and Sea Scryer at the ready to give Ertai what he needs to repeat the entire process.This essentially allows you to infinitely counter every spell your opponent dares to cast. If that isn't enough, there is a second combo that allows the Minion to wreak havoc.All you need is Minion of Leshrac, Amoeboid Changeling, Faces of the Past, Blanket of Night and Kormus Bell on the battlefield. You are now able to destroy all creatures and lands in play in one turn.1 - Tap Amoeboid Changeling to make your Minion all creature types.2 - Tap Minion to destroy a creature or land. Since Minion is all creature types (and all lands are creatures) you may untap the minion every time something hits the graveyard thanks to Faces of the Past. It's like he (or she?) is digging holes to toss the creature in. Landscaping. Eon Hub, Personal Sanctuary or Circle/Rune of protection from Black allow you to soften the upkeep for Mr. or Mrs. Leshrac.Now that the path is clear, send in your theoretically huge Serra Avatar or the Lady Phage to finish the job. There are a lot pieces to assemble. Luckily, there are also a lot of ways to search or draw your way to these pieces - along with a lot of ways to protect yourself until they are in place.
