Freezerburn: the slow burn of control seeping past the defenses of the body thanks to drinking ice too quickly or not addressing something that's been locked down quickly enoughA very old idea with a bit of a modern twist, izzet control sped up with a few 'expensive' draw engines attached.Ancient Tomb, trading material for tempo in the best way. Obviously you can use it in colorless decks to get ahead, or drop a prison card turn 1, but can it be used in other builds to accelerate JUST enough to make a difference? I'd suggest so.Fable of the Mirror Breaker, Stock Up, and Tamiyo clues are material engines that crave mana that Tomb can provide. Being able to use each a turn early pushes you up in tempo enough to retain potential control of the board, then either capitalize on whatever plan you're running or get to the tools you need to fix whatever's going on.Tomb also accelerates the hardcasting of Fury, Force of Will, and Lorien Revealed, so once you curve out, you can double up on the material advantage, which hopefully closes out the game a turn or two early, or put you over the top/recharge a dead hand.Meanwhile, the rest of the deck can completely run without Tomb, as the curve is as low as possible. Functionally 22 one-drops with 8 'free' spells means half the deck can be run on a Volcanic Island or less. So, if you don't draw the Tomb, you'll be fine until you can curve out/find it, and the spells you 'need' Tomb for can be pitched to your 'free' cards or cycled for lands (helping fix the curve). The most complicated deck ever made? Nah, but it's an idea. I love the idea of a turn 1 control card taking care of opponent's opening play, then a turn 2 Tomb into Stock Up or Fable that turbocharges what you're doing, and then it's on opponent to catch back up.Feedback appreciated.
