Site Petition (Discussion)

Main Deck (1 card)

Creatures (1)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Our beloved Mtgvault has been infiltrated by spam bots. I do not like this one tiny bit, and I'd like to do something about it. This site matters to me, and I'd like to keep it around.

So, I propose that site management deputizes a mod for the purpose of deleting these spam decks and accounts. They're extremely easy to spot, so the mod's job wouldn't be ambiguous or arduous in the slightest. Just delete the spam decks and block the accounts, that's it.

If anyone else has a better suggestion, I'm all ears.

Deck discussion for Site Petition (Discussion)

I agree that the most urgent matter currently is the removal of these spammers.
I won't nominate anyone (not even myself) as I feel it has to be a personal choice rather than an imposition.

Makes sense to me. I'll do it if no one else wants to. I realize it's sort of like a Julius Caesar conundrum, and I'm happy for someone else to do it.

Agree or some way to report this so admins can at least check later

Yeah, def need a way to flag the obvious scam posts.

At least a report feature would be nice, but I did also both make a deck AND a discussion post about Modern Horizons 3 not being labelled as legal in Modern on here. An issue which is STILL unresolved. I reported it over a year ago.

This site does appear to be somewhat abandoned, so it is inevitable that the bots will flood in uncontested.

There's a few choice cards missing from the database, too.

A report feature alone won't be of any use if the devs don't react to the reports.

I leave a like, but I don't think Gary cares about this site anymore. It's dead for years now. Come over to moxfield, it has so much more utility.

Yeah, it is pretty much dead, not worth the upkeep and all. But, though moxfiled does have better utility, I am not a fan of the way the deck layout works, or the proverbial avalanche of copy paste decklists (an inevitable consequence of the large user base, I am aware).

I use it on occasion, but though you can choose from many deck view options, none are as good as the one on here IMO, the same goes for descriptions / primers. Plus, I mean, where else can you get a phone number to join the illuminati but here?

Maybe it's because I'm tired of watching the things I love rot and die, but I hate this quite a bit even though I logically know this site is on its last leg

It took me some time too to concede, since I really liked mtgvault. Moxfields interface throw me off too at first but I got used to it pretty fast and I do appreciate it now.
At least it seems you've got rid of the wickeddarkman here, so that's good :)

I just realized mtgvault is already 3 sets behind and we get Lorwyn out in 2 weeks.
The forum is flooded with spam and now also the deck sections gets spammed too.
I'm sorry this is like riding a dead horse.

C'est la vie. I will ride this sunk cost fallacy right until the site gets deleted off the servers.

I probably won't either. Sixteen years or so into deckbuilding on here. I was a completely different person when I started. Hell, I played Dragonstorm.

TheSwarmer, "Visual Spoiler" or "Visual Grid" on Moxfield is probably the closest thing to the style of this site.

Yeah, I use visual grids there 100% of the time, but it is not the same. It's close enough to the MTGO visual layout that I am quite used to, but for deck websites, I still prefer this, although that probably has a lot to do with the sunk cost fallacy and nostalgia.

Also, etymologically, nostalgia means 'the pain of going home' and if that does not encapsulate what opening this site feels like nowadays then nothing does.

I know exactly what you're meaning with the pain. But I decided to look somewhere else, before the pain would deal damage to me or overwhelm me.

It will be interesting what happens first: Ian or Gary reacting or the server shutting down, due to having too few memory space left. Tough we will never find out I guess...

Honestly, been using the site since 2012, and I love it in every way. It does feel quite abandoned, and the legality of cards is a problem often. All the same, I would be happy with a report feature and a team to clear out spammers from the site. I find it frustrating that what I see as a utility and concept site is falling by the wayside.

TBF, this site is my primary location for a search engine with regard to specific language in cards, and I feel as thought it used to work better with fewer errors then it does now. It's also not nearly as compatible with iOS as it used to be.

Spam situation is getting worse, there is no way to reach admins?

Edit: Went to report a bug: It's even worse there, lots of threads of the same spam x.x

The only way to reach Gary was usually via the Facebook account of MTGVault.

The first wave of spam started mid/ end July 2025, at least as far as I can tell from a quick look in the forum. The last post from Gary was on October the 5th, so he should have seen and reacted to this... but the posts are still there and even the accounts are still active (In the form of not banned/ deleted). This tells "'m not interested any more", "I have forgotten about this project" or "I don't have any more time for this project" more clearly than anything else.

I really hope Gary reads this and makes a decision. in my opinion he has 3 options: To accept help, put time into the project or close the site.

If I am seeing things correctly, Gary and Ian created this site along the same time as the company Vault X gaming supplies. From this I am assuming that they might have moved on to focus solely on their business and other personal matters.

While it is a great shame that the site has reach this sorry state it is today, so long as they remain unreachable there is little we can do to save our beloved site. Like all of you I too feel rather nostalgic looking back at my time spent on this site coming up with crazy deck ideas and having interesting discussions with you guys/gals.
